Metric thread.
Will the USA ever go Metric like the rest of the world?
Honestly I feel like this would help a crapload in the long run.
Fuck, we even lost a satellite orbiting Mars in '99 because of a miscalculation when converting from Metric to Imperial units.

We already use metric
You would know this if you ever went to science class instead of shitposting
>>58844485
I mean in the real world. I know we use metric in science class, but I'm talking changing miles to kilometers and weighing in kilograms.
>>58844523
Changing those units would be needlessly expensive. The point of the metric system is the ease of calculations. Only scientists and engineers need to do that. Otherwise any unit will do if you just want to know if it's hot outside or look at your speedometer
>>58844523
Threadly reminder that gallon is 231 cubic inches.
>>58844410
Good luck lad. Americunts ravel in their stubbornness.
Shit was already tried in the 1970s and went over like a lead balloon, and the United States Metric Board was abolished by President Reagan and Congress in the early 1980s. It's over, we had this debate and metric lost. It's been over three decades and no politicians even really talk about it anymore because the issue is settled.
>>58844410
>people are so uneducated that they don't realize metric is just as arbitrary as imperial
>>58844691
>>58844410
here in university we only use metric
only for casual things like miles and pounds does it affect anything. And you don't convert between yards and miles at all anyways so your argument is basically moot
>>58844627
It's SI system that is used in science, though.
>>58844754
Why if it isn't the usual fallacies 'muricans use to defend their broken system.
>>58844773
>kilofoot

>Will the USA ever go Metric like the rest of the world?
When they stop circumcising themselves for no reason
>>58844627
>The point of the metric system is the ease of calculations
No.
>>58844839
I'm not circumcised
>>58844410
>would help a crapload in the long run
No.
>Fuck, we even lost a satellite orbiting Mars in '99 because of a miscalculation when converting from Metric to Imperial units.
Same thing would have happen if they mixed up mm and cm. Modern unit aware programming languages fix that problem.

>>58844946
>using mm or cm in science
American education
>>58844946
>no
elaborate?
>>58845030
You didn't supply an argument
>>58845001
>undergrad detected
Oh, you're going to rage so hard when you get to cgs or Gaussian units
>>58844833
no, we are the major power of the world and we didn't get there by giving up power, land, or ideas to someone else.
>>58845106
Why the fuck was cgs invented when we had SI. I had to use an American software and it was imperial or cgs. Fucking REEEEE.
>>58845106
As >>58845384 said, Gaussian units are part of the problem, not the solution.
American education, indeed.
>>58845136
I have hard time while trying to decipher how your nationalistic ramblings are relevant in any ways.
>>58844773
that's using metric terminology on imperial units
>>58844773
>pic
thast not even funny
>>58844798
What is displayed in your car?
Miles or Kilometers
Also
wtf do you call them clicks?
>>58844773
I unironically think we should introduce spacetime from Startrek.
Because it's reasonably better than the current system.
>>58844523
>changing miles to kilometers
Will never happen. The UK uses metric, most everyone under 40 prefers metric units for most things, but we still use miles.
Too expensive and hard to change ever road sign and a lot of cars don't have km on their speedometers.
>>58848490
The yuro and nip car manufacturers convert the car speedometers just for you and ya yanky doodle
Switching the signs is easy. We did it over a number of years with a different looking type of sign for the km ones. We have more than double the total road length of the UK too.
Everyone knew the conversion between common speeds in mph and km/h anyhow. It's not difficult.
>>58848490
>bongs don't renew their signs
Anglo infrastructure maintenance
>>58844773
is this a meme?
>>58844410
If you're going to make a chart about the glorious imperial system, at lease get all the units right
Here's how it goes:
12 inches in a foot
3 feet in a yard
22 yards in a chain
10 chains in a furlong
8 furlongs in a mile
3.4523383440706278 miles in a league :^)
Educate yourselves, fools
In a perfect world, USA go metric and UK drive on the right side.
