Where were you when Canada's entire economy literally went up in flames?
>>
>>58842632
That's why we don't have any forest. No fires, no nutters raving about mythical primates hiding themselves in the woods, and no serial killers hunting hikers or using them as burial grounds.

That's scary shit tBh

>province eating debt
>oil dollar starts slowly picking itself back up
>fort mac literally burns to the ground
I live in Calgary and people are already freaking out here. Tomorrow will be a mess. 80k people displaced.
>>
>>58842810
And I thought electing the NDP was as bad you guys were gonna get it
>>
>>58842632
What happened senpai?
How did the flames start?
>>
>>58842632
I just moved out of there not long ago, the house I was staying in is gone. Fucking surreal man, a lot of people's homes are gone, pretty sad.
>>
>>58842831
That was worth it to take a massive shit on the PC party to be honest.

Really though, when you think things can't get any worse your entire city burns down. anyone who was still up there was lucky to have not lost their jobs from the massive cuts, and now they're probably homeless. Poor bastards.
>>
>>58842860
>a lot of people's homes are gone
They can buy it back with oil or drug money.
>>
>>58842860
Must be a weird feeling. Sure as hell dodged a bullet, all your shit would be gone.
>>
>>58842850
It's a forest fire.

They just happen. This one happened in a very bad spot
>>
>>58842882
Not if the flames reach the oil fields. If that happens we're fucked.
>>
>>58842882
The structure perhaps, but personal things are gone. Not just drug addicts and meat heads lived up there, a lot of good people lived there, and fuck your shitty life for saying that.
>>
>>58842850
Bad forest fire. Winds picked up suddenly and it got out of control, jumped a highway and the entire city was evacuated.

>tfw my house burned down when I was 12

It was the most surreal experience of my life. I got up that morning, everything was normal and fine, and when I came home from school the whole house was just gone.

The feeling of having literally nothing but the clothes on my back is one I don't wanna ever feel again
>>
>>58843020
How old are you now? Where did you live?
>>
>>58842632
We have such fires literally every summer. Why should anyone care?
>>
>>58843057
because a city is burning, you subhuman russian cunt.

>tfw no significant forest
Feels good.

The house one over on the corner next to mine burned down when I was 11 and we lived in forest fire central. It's not the same but it was terrifying waking up to people banging madly on your door screaming "fire". I also got evacuated during the Calgary floods and the mad dash for necessities and legal documents followed by trudging through flood water and being homeless for a few days wasn't wonderful. Had no idea where I was going to go for a good hour and a half.

What did your family even do after that?
>>
>>58843083
How big this city is?

When wildfires were rampant in my state, my city had to house people from another city that was raped by fire. They lived in the gymnasiums at the schools. Hope you enjoy your new rapefugees

keep in mind that this is 1500 on a summers day
>>
>>58843166
Well, I've checked, it's only 60k people. So literally nothing significant. Just usual forest fire.
>>
>>58843043
I'm 18 now. I'm in Manitoba

>What did your family even do after that?

My dad (Who is a carpenter) started rebuilding efforts the moment the fire department and shit fucked off.

He works for a contracting company and has a lot of friends in the business so it was no trouble getting shit down quick. We stayed at my grandparents place, while my dad (often alone, and all day and night) worked on the new house. After about a year we moved in our new house. Exact same spot as the old one.

Honestly I'm almost glad the fire happened because now we have an awesome and brand new house. It was still a shitty experience but at least something good came out of it

>>58843166
>>58843207
No, it's a big deal. Also media says it's more like 80k people.

Fort Mac is an important economic city to Alberta, it has lots of workers and industry for the tar sand oil industry. So it's a major economic loss when the province is already doing bad due to low oil dollar. It's like having a central factory burn to the ground.
>>
>>58843139
I live way up in the NW so I was nowhere near affected by the flood, but watching it on TV was nightmarish, like I lived close enough that I could actually picture myself there.

Watching news coverage of these fires reawakened a lot of those feelings.
>>
>>58843207
For a first world country that's sparsely populated, it's a big deal.
>>
>>58843169

I wanna make a joke but...I do feel bad for them...

I guess it's just weak anti fire systems. We have huge fires every year and they never touch cities, only few villages get burned usually.
>>
>>58843216
Your Dad sounds like a pretty good guy. I'm glad you were able to recover from it quickly.

>>58843232
I live next to the river that overflowed. I remember walking home that day and the river water was almost right up to the bridge and there were city people with pumping machines so you kind of got that "shit ain't right" feeling. About an hour later I was packing up and helping some neighbours load stuff into their cars before the roads weren't drivable. It was less scary than a fire, but the property damage was massive. The parks and riverpaths are still fucked up in lots of areas.

That's all still better than a forest fire though. Fuck fires.
>>
>>58843403
They would have, you probably just don't remember or never bothered to learn about them.

Last one happened in early 2000's, only some homes were lost. Some of our smaller cities are very deep in the woods.
>>
>>58843403
Well the thing is most people thought it was almost over, and it looked that way until the wind changed. Firefighters know how the slightest change in wind power and direction can change everything, that's what happened here.
