my family is in Zambia and there are a ton of Chinese there, lots of them are trying to settle permanently and many of the youngsters are in relationships with the locals
for the youngsters it's an actual woman (due to the youth M-F ratio on the mainland) and for the locals it's $$$

China does not give citizenship to spouses. The children are full citizens, but the husband/wife of a Chinese citizen is not. They also only give visas for economic reasons. So if the man becomes jobless when it comes time to renew his visa, he'll get deported.
