Hi /int/ and Uruguayans,
I will be heading this Summer to Uruguay in order to play in this year's Festival Panamericano de Ajedrez de la Juventud. I will be playing in the 18 and under male section.
What can you tell me about Uruguay? From what I've read about it online, it seems like a very pleasant place. I have been to Latin America before and I know some Spanish.
Thanks!

Cheap stuff, best meat I've ever had, qts, fresh water beach (cold now), tornadoes and cows.
Don't go there
That place is full of manlets (155cm) and horrible OC
Montevideo is awesome. A lot of cool historical buildings, spend the whole day walking in the city's downtown, focusing the tourist hotspots is the best you can do.
If you have the opportunity, give a visit to Colonia del Sacramento, a colonial portuguese city in the old days, and Punta del Este, the casino beach city of the country.
Countryside
Cows
Meat
Mate
Football
Chill people
Don't believe anything they say about argies

nice nice, I've heard Uruguayans exaggerate how different they are from argentines. is that true?
>>58832793
ok, I will do that. I used to browse /int/ back in the day, so this was the default go-to board for me. thanks!
>>58832881
They claim to be extremely different, but they are extremely alike, just don't tell them.

Uruguay is a qt/functioning version of Argentina. It's also pretty desolate in parts and more expensive then you'd think.
I was in Montevideo and Colonia and liked it.

>>58836132
is it dangerous?
>>58836246
That depends. Not really if you compare it with the rest of Latin America, but you need to take the usual precautions. It's more dangerous than the average US city.
how does it compare to cali or rio de janeiro? the internet says montevideo is nothing like those, so if so, it's safe for me
>>58836389
>how does it compare to cali or rio de janeiro?
Way safer.
Safety is quite an issue for us, and a tv show interviewed a taxi driver who happened to be from Cali, and he was like "What the fuck are you complaining about"?
Nevertheless, be careful at night, specially if you're stayin in old town or downtown.
Do you have any details on where are you going to stay?
>>58836441
LOL
Not sure yet. Somewhere in montevideo! haha. but yeah. I mean, when I stayed in rio, I stayed on the "gentrified" outskirts of a pavela... boy, that was fun! learned to tell apart the whistles of bullets and fireworks at night... LOL GOOD TIMES. yeah montevideo seems totes fine
also, TRUMP TRUMP@!
>>58836578
>Somewhere in montevideo! haha
I meant the neighborhood. I would suggest Pocitos. The transportation is not as good as it is in downtown but it's way safer and cleaner.
>TRUMP TRUMP@!
Well you better keep that for yourself if you plan to interact
>>58832747
More or less this.

american underage kids, this website is full of that garbage no wonder its so shit
>>58832881
>is that true?
no
t. have been in uruguay
I was just in Montevideo end of febuary into march OP honestly felt about as safe as anywhere in the U.S. only time anyone confronted me unsolicited was to see if i waned weed. (I guess it helps that my family is from Uruguay and i speak Spanish and am familiar with the area) but honestly ive felt more safe in Montevideo then in a lot of cities in the U.S.
>>58832360
Great country . The place is actually on par with the US regarding safety levels. Have a great time over there

>The place is actually on par with the US regarding safety levels
I know, it's pretty scary.
