The empire was lost because of our economic/technological advantage was eroded, debts from big wars, and the rise of nationalism. The post-WW2 leftist experiment was not the cause, it was a symptom.

The upper classes were decimated by WW1, where they died in a greater proportion than any other group because officers tended to lead from the front. The survivors were finished off by the post-war consensus which ruined many financially. The vast majority of the rich people in Britain today are not upper class. You can't grasp this because think class is about money.
Likewise, the working class is dying out and has been for several decades, with the loss of traditional manufacturing jobs to cheaper foreign labour. Many "white collar" service workers are paid far worse than the surviving working classes, but they certainly do not identify as working class
