Instead of being wage slaves, every citizen is payed a guaranteed basic income (enough to live on). Everyone is liberated to do the things they really want to do. Whether that's start a business, get an education, learn a skill, become self-employed, et cetera. It would effectively eliminate poverty, and the most vulnerable members of society could stand on their own two feet. People won't be working just to get by, people will be working to thrive.

A pilot project is going to be launched in the province of Ontario sometime next year. The results from the pilot will be used to see if the program should be expanded.

Opinions? Good? Bad? Is it just free money for nothing? Is it sustainable?

What does /int/ think of cuckcum? Can it work? Are you for or against?

Is UBI effay?
>>
whether they do it now or later, basic income is something that'll need to be implemented eventually due to automation

I like the idea of basic income because you can take career risks without worrying about being homeless

I'm not banking on it, but as a long-time NEET, I know I'd get out of my mother's basement if this happened.
>>
Or just do it properly and become real socialist, get rid of money altogether.
>>
where does the basic income come from?
what if what most people want to do is not working/start a job? what if what most people want to do is getting an education/learning a skill until they die?
>>
>>58759979
>enough to live on
No, it'll be barely enough to live on. The idea is that you do those shitty one day-one week jobs when companies don't want to hire a regular person to do it, and still be able to live.
>>
I don't know shit about economics but wouldn't the prices of everything just increase in response to more people having money?
>>
>>58760381
This. Truth is, there won't be enough jobs for everyone in 50 years. This is gonna be a change that is going to have to happen.
>>58760598
>where does the basic income come from
Presumably by taxing the ultra-wealthy. Automation is gonna make some people extremely rich.
>>
>>58760598
This is just Friedman's negative income tax. If you make tons of money, you get high taxes. You make non, you'll get just enough to live and pay no taxes. Even if you're a neet you end up spending the money, that goes right back to the productive people. This supposedly would get rid of every social program out there. No food stamps, subsides, etc.
And Chile lived some of their best years when they followed Friedman's politicies
>>
Thermodynamics? What could thermo possibly have to say about economics?
>>

this desu, star trek now
>>

>where does the basic income come from?
the gubment, basic income would replace all other social programs. Welfare, healthcare, all that would just go away and be replaced with basic income
>what if what most people want to do is not working/start a job? what if what most people want to do is getting an education/learning a skill until they die?
there's not even going to be nearly enough jobs for everybody to work anyways due to automation. It's not like people are going to drop their skilled jobs that they make a ton of money with to live on basic income. Basic income isn't going to make everyone high class, it's basic income, basic.
>>
>>58760580
but then how would you trade with non-socialists? just trade precious metals?
seems like it would just be a thinly veiled gold standard.
>>
>>58760906
Socialism is an international movement, everyone should be socialist.
>>
>>58759979
there's literally never anything wrong with pilot programs to test efficacy.
>>
>>58761018
Is it the same as Emuism? Is that why you had to fight the Emus?
>>
>>58761121
We fought them because they were filthy fascists.
>>
Basic income is a giant 2016 meme and you're asking the welfare states to roll back all of their welfare on a whim (good fucking luck with that one btw)
>>
>>58761201
And your country has learned that the strong beak of fascism always wins.
>>
>>58759979
Basic income is never going to be allowed to become a thing. Why would businesses want a scenario where they cannot extort employees to give up their rights in exchange for survival? Why would politicians want normal people to have enough free time to actually become interested in politics? Why would anyone wealthy and in power want the population to have the means to do anything?

It's a project intended to fail.
>>
>>58761469
Good point.
>>
>>58761469
a pessimistic view but you might be right

still this trial can only be a good thing, hopefully it's transparent so if groups undermine it we can see who, and if it works that would be very interesting.
>>
>>58761469
No, I think that they are legitimately trying to do good.
