How is this still news to people?
Are you aware that amphibious operations in WW1 weren't exactly a situation that happened every day? Besides, our lads landed on the wrong beach, Turkey would be an Australian protectorate by now otherwise :^)

Churchill wanted a naval assault on the Dardanelles to get rid of the older naval ships and take the straits. The Naval commanders didn't want to sacrifice their ageing ships and so the plan was changed to a land invasion.
The planning took so long that the Turks knew they were coming and set their defences up. The maps of the area were completely wrong and they landed in the wrong location.
It was basically one of the biggest military cock ups of the 20th century.

Have you ever tried to kill a cockroach? They just won't die
>>58742734
Yeah I gotta cut you some slack for that.
Can't really blame you for not being able to kill creatures that would survive Nuclear war
>mfw carrier pigeons played decisive roles during multiple crucial battles in WWI
Most people don't get pissed at Turks for that, we see it as the fault of the generals and Churchill
