What is the vertical scale meant to represent?
Why is Shanghai in Italics alone?
Why are 2 of the quadrants in yellow?
Why are the titles covering the numbers on the X-axis?
This graph is so terrible in so many ways

Well just to be sure no one is misinterpreting the graph.
The vertical scale is showing average score in mathematics performance in the PISA test, the horizontal axis represents how much impact socioeconomic factors have on students taking that test.
Green is better than yellow and red is worse than yellow, countries in the green quadrant performance is high and learning opportunities are equally distributed, in the upper-left yellow quadrant performance is high but there are large social disparities, in the bottom-right yellow quadrant performance is low but at least socioeconomic factors don't have much impact on student's achievement, meanwhile in the red corner countries perform below on math score and there are large social disparities.
Shanghai-China is in italics because "performs above that line" but they put it there so you can see at least where it stands in the x axis, there are also countries below Mexico which are not show in that particular slide.

Only bumping because it is somewhat interesting

Chinese and Finns are taking their best students to get high numbers. google it

Doesn't surprise me. There's a fairly significant stigma against maths. For shame, I don't know how instrumental it was for me. I could've been pretty good in another school setting perhaps
