When I was little, I used to see maps of the world like pic related in my books and think, "Man, the world is pretty huge, and I don't even know what the other side looks like." Yep, I thought that since the map was round, there were more countries on the other side that they never showed for some reason. I still remember when it dawned on me that what I was seeing was it, there was no other side. I took a book about cool animals or something like that with me into the bathroom and I was reading about bats in Europe. The book had a small map telling you were the animals lived, and it was then looking at a map of bat distribution throughout the planet that I figured out that that was it. There was no other side, and the world felt a lot smaller all of a sudden. I must've been in third grade.
>>
>>58379958
You said other countries but my biggest realizations have been about America and that it isn't all that great.

I've also come to realize most Euros are just as bad or worse in some cases.

Why did I laugh so hard at this? Had you never seen a world globe or something?

Also, okay, so if we're talking about being stupid kids, I cried all day when I learned that people died as a kid.

> I cried all day when I learned that people died as a kid.
When I was three or four, I asked my mom if all people died and she told me only bad people died. I don't remember when I stopped believing that, but the illusion didn't last long.

That because Alexander the Great came from a Kingdom called Macedonia, that modern Macedonia is the same thing as it.

Also, because I was told in class that Australia was initially a name of a hypothetical most Southern-est land before getting discovered to what we know today of it and getting said name attributed to it, that my teacher meant that Australia still isn't a real place but a hypothetical one, like Atlantis, where people just attribute ideas and fictional settings to as a fill-in (like in Mad Max).

This reminds me, I think that at one point, since people always talked about how America wasn't discovered until after the middle ages, I thought that nobody lived there until that point. I remember people deriding America for only having a 200 year long history and wondering if the landmass had literally only existed or been above the surface of the ocean for 200 years, too.
