Explain to me how it shouldn't belong to Ireland entirely.
The Irish conflict doesn't have to do with religion, it has to do with identity. Most of the protestants are scots who settled there a couple hundred years ago.

That isn't entirely true. The Scots initially colonised the north of Ulster and they were protestant (mostly Presbyterian). When the industrial revolution rolled around, the urban centres of Ulster became predominantly protestant (Anglican/Presbyterian). Because the Protestant Ulster Scots were the ones who held the reigns of power in Ulster under the British Empire, if any Ulstermen wanted to get ahead they'd have to become protestant. So generally the peasant population of Ulster were Catholic, and the upper/middle class respectable families were Protestant.
Protestants identify as British and part of the British polity. Most Catholics don't.
