Policemen in France are alright 90% of the time and not afraid to express their views - which are often more nuanced. In the commisariat of my town, there are flyers to encourage victims of racism to speak out.
The problem is that because they have a mostly good reputation, police brutality cases are never really investigated. We also have a different relation with the police, since there is about 4 times more policemen per capita in France, not counting military patrols near Train Stations, Mosques, Church and Jewish schools.
