how good was life in the Soviet Union?
>>58313968
No.
It was horrible for anyone with intelligence and a desire to improve their own lives though hard work and ingenuity.
Ask East Germans.

It all depends on where you were and what you were doing. If you were in places like Moscow or some other big city then it was not as bad as it could have been. You could get a decent rent controlled flat in the center of Moscow. The people that miss the USSR the most are scientists. Every single kind of government science project was funded even if it was for no reason.
However there was still problems. A lack of consumer goods was appereant.Towards the end it got really bad you had to sign your son up for a car the day he was born hoping one would be available to him by the time he got old enough to drive. The quality of consumer goods suffered mostly because the Soviet supply chain was so bad. The raw materials to make goods would not come in for 2-3 weeks. The factory would stay empty then all of the raw materials would come in. There was a period of lightning production were the entire factory worked 24 hours a day to meet the entire months quota in 1-2 weeks this resulted in shitty goods they were also produced late.
Dad and father were positive about it. THey worked as agro ingeneer and helicopter electronics programmer.
I was born in 82 and dont clearly remember that time, but the impression is SAFENESS,

Security is always seen as a plus even if it means giving up your liberty's

People who are content not to think for themselves, or have their own ideals, and happy to let the government control every aspect of life and society, sure it was great.
For people that prefer freedom, it was a living nightmare.

Did people and their families actually disappear in the morning calls?
>>58323412
No one disappears really, they just get secretly liberated
>>58323412
Yes. My fathers parents were labeled dissidents and were taken. We can only assume to Siberia to be worked to death. 3 children were placed into a state orphanage, which were really terrible.
This was life in the soviet union if you opposed Socialism.

As always someone seeks for attention and troubles while someone seeks for opportunity.
