I have some questions about South Italy.
>Travelled in Milan some years ago (2011)
>People there told me basically south Italy is the worst place in western Europe

- Is it as shitty as they say?
- Is it always controlled by mafias?
- How is the situation in 2016?
>>
Mind your own business and you'll be fine. And yes mafia controls whole of our country not just the south.
>>

>People there told me basically south Italy is the worst place in western Europe
It's better than Portugal

>Is it as shitty as they say?
No

>Is it always controlled by mafias?
No

>How is the situation in 2016?
No

>mafia controls whole of our country not just the south
That's not what northern Italian told me. Milan seemed to be pretty great desu (Wasn't in Milan itself, but still).
>>
>>58244280
Well, can you develop your opinion?
Has the situation there improved recently?
Was it all this mafia and shit totally clichés?
>>
As a southern Italian, it's bad. We're waaaaay down economically compared to any place in western Europe (and that is hard to fix. Thanks to widespread corruption and Mafia). Of course, most young people move out ASAP to find better job prospects (Youth unemployment is at 44.7% I think? Something like that.). Regardless, I am proud of my culture and I honestly think that all the negative stereotypes about southern Italians are dumb, as almost all young people come out quite educated (Hence moving out of the south) and being called a terrone isn't pretty. Some people in the north judge you for where you're from, and it sucks, as they group you with the mafia etc. This was mostly a rant, but I hope it helped clear things up somewhat.
>>
>>58244334
That's a typical Italian in denial. Mafia use its dirty money to make legit businesses in Northern Italy.
>>
>>58244334
Mafia doesn't control any part of Italy, stop with the memes. Extortions, narcotraffic and interference in public contracts is what mafia currently does
>>
>>58244501
Oh. And the mafia isn't honorable. They are complete and utter scum who will do anything to get money, such as smuggling illegal immigrants and dumping tonnes upon tonnes of toxic waste under agricultural soil. Don't let movies like The Godfather shape your view on them.
>>
>>58244501
Do you live in Calabria? It's not that bad
>>
>>58244615
Nope. Outskirts of Naples. Zone di periferia
>>
>>58244501
>Youth unemployment is at 44.7%
Where are you from in the south?
>honestly think that all the negative stereotypes about southern Italians are dumb
Honestly, the only one that I know is the "mafia" stereotype, but I always thought that most people actually suffered because of them.
>a terrone
What does that mean?
>Some people in the north judge you for where you're from, and it sucks
Agree. That's pretty much why I made this thread.
>>
>>58244601

Why is Italy the only W-Euro country left that still has a substantial crime syndicate?
>>
>>58244677
Well, Naples has some really bad parts but for the rest it's one of the richest cities of Italy
>>
>>58244889
We exported our fellow mafiosi to Germany, so technically we're not the only western European nation :)

So Hans has to deal with Turks, Economic migrants(or "refugges") and you too?
>>
>>58244818
From Naples.

Yes, the mafia brings us great poverty and shame. It is mostly thanks to them that we're poorer than we should

A terrone is a derogatory term used towards people of the south

Sorry about the formatting. It's hard on mobile

>>58244889
Deep rooted corruption. Very deep rooted. Here the government works with the mafia most of the time. Politicians buy votes etcetera. Although, the fact that nobody really tries too hard to help the South leaves me feeling...lost. I guess. I mean, It is clear we have a problem. But nobody tries too hard. And when they try, it never works

We were the first economic migrants, in fact our friendly calabresi are there since the early 60's.
>>
>>58243957
I've been to Naples and in Calabria region a number of times both on my own and with a local dude

- Is it as shitty as they say?
Southern Italy is hands down most beautiful part of Italy if not entire Europe. People are way nicer in the South than they are in Rome or Northern Italy. Just don't act like an annoying burger and complain if your ESSSPREEEISOO hasn't arrived the moment you ordered it

- Is it always controlled by mafias?
maybe, but it not something that could affect a tourist in any way
>>
>>58245150
>Politicians buy votes
To be fair it's not very rare, even in west cunts.
Look at the Bush case, or Sarkozy.
Maybe it's just politics who are naturally corrupt.
>>
>>58243957
by the way northern italian always try to backbite south italy. most of the beutiful places in Italy are in south....
>>
>>58245228

Google just translates it by "meridional", wich isn't a pejorative word here

>Do you live in Calabria? It's not that bad
Every time I go to Calabria I get sad because of the people, of the backwardsness, of the wasted potential. It's a beatiful part of Italy, it could become a prestigious touristic hub, but it seems like it will never be.

Still, it's not simple to improve if the best people your region produces flee from it as soon as they can and nothing is done to avoid it.

This. In the South when people know you've some potential, everyone will suggest you to leave

sure, that is if you ignore that there's a whole village located in a god-forsaken part of southern Italy where local mafia has their cattle roaming the streets freely often causing car crashes and other minor issues as a way of showing they own and run the place. If you're willing to overlook this then it's as you say.
>>
>southern mafia apologists

Like almost all of Italy the food is delicious and the natural beauty is worth a visit. Eastern Sicily is the best tourist place to visit in the southern area though.

While Naples is shit Pompeii and Vesuvius and those areas are lifetime see's though

it is true though. One of them literally harassed me on the phone, asking me to let him come with me to the parties because nobody was inviting him.
I won't even mention how butthurt they were 24/7 that both my English and my German far exceeded their own in every way.

I live in one of the most "literally where" towns of Calabria, and i never ever not even once saw things like theft or similar crimes here, maybe sometimes there are mafia goons doing their "business", but i've never saw them (i actually grew up thinking that my town was too small even for the mafia, then i learned about the usual "families" that are/were rich because of that).
For the shitty part i guess that it's not that different from other cities, a part from the fact that it's way behind in technologies and stuff, like most of Calabria still has a 64kbs connection (like myself).
I guess one of the major issues we have right now are immigrants, but they're not the issue itself, it's natives (mostly elder people) that suddenly found within themselves a "race war" spirit and fall for every bullshit they read on facebook. And the worst part is that most now willingly follows Salvini, a politician that just a couple of years ago would've burned everything south of Rome (and maybe even Rome itself) with his bare hands if he could. Not to mention the usual "Everything is niggers' fault, i never do anything wrong" attitude some of them have.
Outside of that, those without strong political beliefs are pretty nice and welcoming, i guess because, like another anons said, our ancestors were among the first to migrate to other countries to work, so almost everyone here has relatives at least in Canada.
