Is it getting better?

a little, perhaps?
in what way would it be
Most of those countries have a decent standard of living in the cities.
Well, at least the news of them starving left and right have slightly gone back over the last decade or so. But this may bounce back if they don't stop reproducing like rabbits. Places like Nigeria, as fertile as they may be, simply don't support populations of 800M or whatever they're projected to be by 2050
Mostly. Africa is huge and different countries are in different situations. However, since the end of the cold war, there has been a trend towards stability and democracy, which is enabling economic growth. It's not universal at all, but the vast majority of Africans live in places that are improving. Hopefully things stay this way. Also I forget the exact statistic, but right now there's a record low of conflicts going on in Africa iirc. I hope that the west and China don't end that by fighting proxy wars in Africa like we did with the USSR.

>dude we're suffering from pandemics
>uh increase the population density

Luckily China is investing a lot in agriculture in Africa. It's mostly because they want to have somewhere to import food from, but Africans will benefit from the experience gained from that. Right now, most agriculture in Africa is relatively low productivity subsistence farming. There's a lot of room for improvement from mechanized farming. A lot of governments did try to nationalize agriculture to promote the transition to more mechanized farming, but it was almost as disastrous as when other socialist governments took over agriculture. That period is mostly over now and private industry is promoting the mechanization of farming, so it should go better this time.

Both the birthrate and deaths from disease are decreasing in most of Africa.

Well yeah of course there is still potential for output per area. But even if that is maximised to European level and all the rainforest bruned down for crops, it'll still not be enough if the population keeps growing exponentially

Slightly less shitty shit is still shit.
I'd reccomend "Dead Aid" by Sambisa Moyo, "The Fate of Africa" by Martin Meredeth, and "China's Second Continent" by Howard W. French to get an idea of sub Saharan Africa's current situation. Those are the books I've read on the subject at least, there's probably more and better ones out there.
>>58198508
yeah but it's less shit. hence "getting better"
>>58198237
HAHAHAHAHAAHA THEY WERE SO WRONG ABOUT 2014-2015
>>58198686
What do you mean by this?

The birth rates are declining. The population growth is because of increasing life expectancies due to better healthcare and nutrition, which is itself a product of economic development. It wasn't that long ago that other regions of the world had an Africa tier birth rate, and now they're barely above the replacement level. Overall I'm not that worried because of things like GMOs and renewable energy sources becoming more viable and making it easier to support the population growth. And in the medium term future, near earth asteroid mining will provide a lot of the resources that we are afraid of running out of. Maybe I'm a bit optimistic, but the doomsday sayers have been wrong so many times.

Almost all of Africa's growth the last 25 years can be attributed to the commodity supercycle led by China/ASEAN.
The supercycle ended in 2014.
Africa grew 4.5% in 2014, 4% in 2015, and 3.5% projected this year. Some African economies are in recession this year.
It'll rebound in 2017, but the era here>>58198237
is over.
Not to mention world growth has been 2.8-3% 2012-2016.

Do you have them scanned?

No. I'm a moralfag and bought them on my Kindle.

The African economies slowed down dramatically since 2013. I explain here>>58198790
Empire of Dust
>>58198790
Eh, it can't be entirely due to China/ASEAN requiring more raw materials. A lot of African economies shrank after independence even though exports of key resources like oil increased. Better (but still shit) governance has to be at least a factor in their growth.

Agreed agreed.
They've done better by not going to war as often. 1980-2005 is over, for now.
But the impetus to escape that shitty hell of 1980-2005 was China/ASEAN's supercycle.
