They went to Britian starting around the 50's when we were stil a backwater country. We only became a good place to live in the 90's, overtaking Britain perhaps around the late 90's and early 00's. Since then, they have started coming but it's still a short time compared to the amount of time since they have started going to the UK so the effects haven't been that bad yet.
Basically we don't have niggers/pakis because we were shit and now we're not because we don't have them.

1. EU monies. UK contributes more to the EU than it gets, which then ends up being spent on smaller countries like Ireland. So indirectly Ireland's development was funded by money from (among others) UK.
2. corporate tax haven. Ireland gives companies a place to stash their profits, and in return get a small cut - which for a tiny country like Ireland adds up to quite a lot. There again, this mostly affected the UK since Ireland's appeal as a tax haven is that it's English-speaking, and for UK companies easily accessible due to EU membership and simple geographic proximity.
3. Irish go abroad to work, send money home. This used to be a bigger thing in the old days, but even now about 800k Irish work abroad (~15% of the population). Half of those are in the UK, taking jobs from British workers and sending some of the money back to Ireland.
tl;dr Ireland is a parasite slowly bleeding the UK dry.

Irish people have this complex where they worry excessively about not appearing good enough or smart enough, so they either (a) don't bother working at all and just slap shit together or (b) work as much as fucking possible and buy a shit ton of fucking rubbish they don't actually need so they look wealthy.
Brits have been sitting at the big boy table for a couple centuries, they got complacent, and so the Irish, the more ambitious, have gone gunning straight for the top spot (only Norway and Switzerland are above us in Europe [city-states don't count] in per capita terms). We've essentially taken an American stance on the economy - if it makes money, build it. If it doesn't, sell it off to someone who will make it profitable.
