My parents are serious bible banging christians so they didn't take it well, even though I told them in the most polite way possible. I got kicked out and was homeless for awhile but now i'm fine

My folks weren't particularly religious growing up. Only went to church when neighbors invited us. I'm the only atheist I know who isn't an ex-Christian.

Parents actually took it well. They try to get me to church sometimes on special dates (new years, christmas, etc)[spoiler]and that is mostly so I make more friends....[/spoiler] , but other than that it is fine.

Well both my parents were atheist so I guess always. There was a period in my childhood where I wondered if God was real but I didn't(and still don't) know what faith or path was the correct one so I just kinda defaulted into not caring about religion at all.

From what I've heard only in the south/bible belt. As a life long northerner I can say the majority of folks in the northern states could care less about your religion or lack of one.

I came out on easter sunday a few years ago. I refused to go to church and tried to tell my parents that organized religion is a sham and that god is a made up superstition but all they did was yell at me and force me to go. This was when I was 23 but now i'm older and on my own, still not believing in a magical sky fairy

I left church when I was 18.
Now I'm 25 and feel too ashamed about it.
I need to rejoin the church but I'm just don't brave enough yet.

mother was pretty religious when we were growing up and tried to instill it in us by bringing us to mass every sunday etc (father was meh about it and just went along because appearances), but there was really no stopping the gradual societal shift to secularism in the late 90s (propelled largely by the never-ending abuse scandals suddenly emerging) so by the time we were teenagers she just stopped trying. she stopped going herself ftmp shortly after too though she was always quite religious nonetheless
I think after that any agnosticism/atheism was assumed rather than necessarily announced
