I've got no inclination to debate the merits and detriments of various healthcare systems, nor the time.
But I hear tons of people in this nation say that healthcare is currently unaffordable to individuals, even after the affordable care act.
I live in the southern US, in a state which did not expand the medicaid program. I'm currently in university and working around 30 hours a week making 8.75/hr.
In my income bracket (I do believe for singles it goes up to 44,000/year), a $220 credit per month is available to subsidize healthcare. You can either get a mediocre plan for absolutely no premium cost, or a good plan at a bit of cost.
It seems to me that most of the people hooping and hollering that affordable healthcare is non-existent in the states are too lazy or ignorant to search out the options available to them.
Of course, I do think that our current system is an unholy amalgamation of the worst parts of any healthcare system. Not debating its merits, sustainability, or anything like that.
Just saying that people claiming that healthcare is unavailable to them at affordable costs in the US are likely stupid; at least those making less than 44,000/year claiming this.
