>tfw Americo-Liberians clung to their American identity and basically copied southern culture
I wonder if autistic African Americans view Liberia the same way autistic whites view Rhodesia, since the Americo-Liberians no longer have a monopoly on power (the vast majority of the population isn't Americo) and the country was a bit better off during Americo rule, at least after slavery was abolished.

Liberia was a failed colony because it was run by blacks.

Rhodesia was a successful country because it was run by whites.

They even copied the architecture of much of the south. I wonder if the Americo accent sounds like the southern American accent, at least from what it was during the late 1800s.

We should've shipped them all off.
Mutually beneficial.

But Liberia used to be much more successful, and that coincides with when Americo-Liberians ruled.

The per capita numbers are even more dramatic. 1979 was when Americo rule ended.

Real talk: Will West Africa exceed the South in terms of development soon? On the surface it looks like the major conflicts are over, and countries like Ghana are showing genuine growth.

>the South
Southern Africa?
I'd say yes.
>>
>>58058492
to be fair the difference isn't terribly big

Angola has oil and some minerals
Namibia has diamond
Botswana has diamonds
SA has iron and other minerals and diamonds.

West and Central Africa are the future.

Nigeria has already surpassed South Africa in terms of total GDP and is growing faster as well. So their per capita incomes and standard of living are bound to catch up eventually.

Don't they have major infrastructure issues that are messing up their growth, though? Their railway is outdated by at least a few decades and Lagos is swamped with slums. There was a Chinese-built railroad project being made and another rail system planned for Lagos but I don't know how well those are doing.

tfw actually chinese-canadian ;_;

>>58058682
China's impact depends a lot on the African governments. If they are willing to only sign deals that benefit their citizens and/or Africans go on strike and protest against Chinese abuses and that actually gets them concessions, China will be a benefit to those countries. If not, what you said will be true.
>>
>>58058696
Probably doing badly since Africans have a tendency to destroy everything that gives them some sort of sustainability

>remember seeing some video about volunteers who went to some small village to help them get clean water via a pump and pipe system
>return year later
>shit was destroyed and someone had made a fence out of it
>>
>>58058792
Doesnt matter since governments are corrupt, people are easily replaceable and the chinese import their own workers because concepts such as African time exist.
>>
>>58058682
You mean like what European colonial powers have been doing for decades?

Quite it somalianon
>>
>>58059183
But they're corrupt to varying degrees. And it's not like Africans themselves never form unions/protest/rebel/etc to force their governments to reform. There's a reason only one country was a multiparty liberal democracy at independence and now there's several in Africa.
