My life is pretty good. Most people are laid back and chill. There is very little visible racial tension. There is an overt stance of tolerance all around.
Having said all that, I live in Cape Town. I also have a somewhat American accent, even though I'm Bulgarian.
But overall, I like living here and most people of all races are nice and friendly.

I moved here when I was 4 or 5 with my family, due to my father's job. In 1999 I moved to the USA. Then in 2008 spent 2 years back here, and in 2014 moved back permanently.
I own property and make money renting, but I'm pursuing a writing career.
I don't know Afrikaans even though I took it in school, but I always failed that shit. Even my closest white South African friend doesn't speak it.

Same here, but in a worse position than yours.
I'd like to learn how to trade online so I can make money that way and focus on the writting and painting. I know it's possible and many people have done it and do it on a regular basis and live from that so... It is possible.
