Their lakes are shit compared to Finland according to my old biology teacher. He was hiking through different countries when he met an elderly couple in Scotland who praised a beautiful lake that he should definitely go see. He hiked quite a long way to see it but said the result was very underwhelming.

I visited not too long ago. Absolutely wonderful time tbqhwy. The highlands truly are beautiful. Also the people were very friendly in Edinburgh. One of the nicest cities I've been to in Europe in my personal opinion.

I live here and it's shit. Most people are in the central belt and it's probably one of the most bleak places in Britain. It's cold, the people are cunts, the infrastructure is shit and there's few opportunities. The only redeeming factors are free uni and cheap housing.
The Highlands and Islands are beautiful but if you actually live here you're probably not going to see them much if ever. Scotland is great for tourists, but it's probably one of the most dilapidated places in the UK to be stuck in.

Pretty much all of the densely populated areas in the UK are bleak as fuck and both Edinburgh and Glasgow offer a lot of opportunities, entertainment and world class culture for a fraction of what you'd pay in Manchester or London (in terms of housing especially).
We learn a lot of our (West Swedens) Scottish heritage at uni nowadays, but I bet most Scots have no idea about that.

I actually like snowy winters, I hate the in-between weather where it's chilly and wet, not warm enough to be enjoyable outdoors and not cold enough for beautiful snow. To me weather should be dry and warm, or cold and snowy. I prefer -5 and heavy snow in January over 5 and cold drizzle
