Why is australian architecture so ugly?
>>
Same reason your mums so ugly
>>
>>57916182
the sydney museum is nice
>>
We stick our politicians somewhere shitty, so they know their place
>>
>>57916204
The mum argument. Good one
>>
>Australia's let us rejoice
>For wee are poo and pee
>>
Since when did you have any ability to judge?
>>
>>57916210
It looks like your average generic neo-classical building.
>>
>>57916296
This

But Sydney does have a lot of nice sandstone architecture in that same vein.
>>
>>57916182
ngl our parliament is fucking ugly but at least we aren't a third world country.
>>
>>57916259
We have at least something to put an eye on
>>
>>57916407
We have those too
>>
>>57916182

I like the neo-gothic architecture found in Australia. It's kind of unusual.
>>
>>57916528
really neat stuff

Those old buildings were built by brits. Those ugly buildings in the background are Australian architecture.
>>
>>57916570
Sydney has a lot of sandstone buildings, huge amount of work considering the rock's all cut by hand.
Most of the stuff here is sort of a classical revival style I guess
>>
>>57916497

Why they make the roof like that? It's just aesthetical or have some use?

Even if they were, they were still built with local materials and with a different look from what you'd see on the British mainland. Usually Gothic revival was also something exclusive to churches or other grand buildings, but not in this case.

You're always welcome back. If you're science-based, they've recently opened up two massive new buildings - one for nanotechnology research behind the Physics Building, and the CPC for medical sciences next to St. Johns.

Between them it's been over $1 billion AUD and the facilities are absolutely amazing. The CPC is the largest lifestyle disease research centre in the Southern Hemisphere - and one of the biggest in the world.

thats like saying if it were not ugly, it was beautiful. that thing is there.

France also has way to much concrete, but these two are really awful
>>
>>57917392
But the crown is the best part there. It's the midpiece that is too obstructive.

>>
Idk, don't really care for a pretty building , neither do most Aussies
>>
>>57917449
It was you French who made brutalism into what it is today, though. Not only that, but you took concrete to a whole other level. Or rather, galaxy, because this is some legit sci-fi shit.

It's so nice. I think you guys still use the Medical building across the road, and the Anderson Stuart building (>>57916748) for anatomy labs - but a lot of your tutorials and dry labs are now done in CPC.

It's mainly geared for medical research and the medical sciences (which is what I do), but you'll probably be spending time there.
>>
>>57917506
lmao

I actually really like brutalist architecture, not even joking.
>>
>>57917705
Yes it's all France's fault for bringing this cancer into the world. The guy was called Le Corbusier
