Canada has benefited immensely from trade with Japan and the most coveted jobs in my area are with Honda & Toyota because they pay more than the American factories and have infinitely better work environment/benefits. I hope China continues to develop. I hope they reach a per-capita level of development on par with that of rich western countries. I'm not worried that CCP influence will promote authoritarianism internationally. I'm also not worried about the environmental impact that billions of Chinese people with consumption habits equal to that of rich westerners will have on the global environment; I don't believe that global warming is unmanageable (just build some levees to keep the water out or migrate inland).
Conversely, a developed China will be great for the global economy (and my 401K) and great for global scientific/technological advancement.

Does TPP limit trade with China? I can't see that flying here whatsoever. My understanding is it's a trade bloc to counter Chinese influence but I don't think there's anything that keeps us from signing our own agreement with China. Our cabinet will usually talk to the media if they have questions but when it was leaked they immediately refused to confirm or deny the issue and freeland looked super uncomfortable when asked.
