Utah is where the Mormons reside. That's way out west, and no one really cares about Mormons outside of Utah. Most people see them as kooky and harmless, like scientologists.

Yeah, Christians think that Mormons are members of a cult(technically they are), Mormons think that Christians just refuse to accept Joseph Smith's truth. Mormons also really hate the Catholic Church for some reason(they split off at a time in which American Protestants really hated the church, so that's probably why)

If you're talking about the clergy and politicians, then no. There's not any overt hostility any more. Religion in America is mostly cultural now(though we're much more religious than Europe) so there aren't really any tensions

In Utah, Salt Lake City in particular, Mormons have some really good social programs and their poor are actually helped. The missionaries that you see at your door are just trying to get Christians to convert most of the time, but I think there are Mormon missionaries in Africa and Asia that do pretty much the same think Protestant missionaries do(conversion of the population, development of the infrastructure, I don't think Mormons do vaccinations though)

not him but i dont think it works like that. there are more aggressive wings in any religion in the advertisement and active campaigning of said religion and mormonism isnt any different. their missionaries do tend to be VERY active internationally though, which is kind of surprising, and they see gaining converts as their sole job. often communities gain certain "advantages" or "services" by converting, ie money and medicine, which is insidious and disgusting
