So, I'm moving to England in three months. I'm gonna be working near Chancery Lane, and I've been looking for apartments near by, and found a lot of small apartments for ~1300GBP/month. Is it unreasonable? I'm gonna be making 70k GBP, so I can afford it.

I'm just thinking if I could get better entertainment opportunities in the suburbs (and also cheapter rent)?
>>
Hope you brought a Koran
>>
>>57841705
1300 is too cheap you want to pay more than that, there will be something hideously wrong with most of those places

People in London on average wage (~30k in London) spend half their salary on rent.
>>
>>57841705
when you move will you tell the customs officer that you're "czeching out"?
>>
>>57842294
What?
>>
>>57841705
1300GBP/month is roughly the price for a mid tier student accommodation studio/room, I am currently living in one near your area so I would know that.

what this guy said >>57842286

I don't know how I fuck that up so badly.

If it's just for three months, sure why not.

I would advise you to do some research of the surrounding area and don't rent places where students and nightclubs are in close proximity, britbongs love to make noise late at night.
>>
>>57843356
hes moving to britain in 3 monts, not for 3 months
>>
>>57843356
It's not for three months, I'm leaving Czech Republic in three months.

Paying even 1300seems crazy to me, I could pay off a big ass house in my country for that.

Also I won't be spending that much time at home, so I don't see much of a point in a big apartment.

I live close by so a word of warning
Food is expensive
Very expensive

I'm gonna eat breakfasts and lunches at work (it's free), and maybe sometimes even dinners, so I'll be OK in this manner I think.

>Paying even 1300seems crazy to me
that's the wonder of living in one of the biggest cities in the world, london rent is only outshine by Hong Kong and Tokyo rent.

My advice still stands, though I would agree with >>57842286 that 1300PM is not going to get you a good room in London (especially when you are working and not going to be in a student hostel).

Why don't you just ask your company for help? If they are in zone 1 and hires people like you from overseas they should be well-equipped to answer any questions expats like you would have. hell, some big companies even have employee accommodation close to the area.
>>
>>57843689
I was hoping for them to help me, just wanted to ask here to be prepared for anything.
>>
>>57843658
Damn that's got to suck
All my mates that went on to do that got worked to death
>>
>>57843813
Well, yeah, but I'm gonna be working on an interesting project, and the money is good. I've been working since I was very young, so I'm used to heavy workload.
>>
>>57843779
Well what we can tell you right now is that 1300 is not going to get you anything good in zone 1, but as you won't be staying much at the place you rent I guess that's good enough.

Just make sure to live in a quiet area if you are planning to sleep in your room at night, I really cannot stress that hard enough.

Come to Czech Republic my friend. Safest country in Europe and shit is cheap as dirt.

JUST..

With a rent like that for a shit tier apartment the average salary should be something like £4k a month in London?

It's a pretty depressing room tbqh, having came from a middle-high class background from my country it took me a week to adjust to this place.

Maybe look to share a house/apartment, you will get more of an authentic experience, make friends and save cash..

City is also a bit boring (where you'll be working.) Try Islington or Hackney, both very easy to get to work from where you'll be. Get a bike t.b.h. too. Enjoy it.
>>
>>57844457
looks like a uni dorm though

if you share a flat you can probably get something nicer

That's awful. I thought my place in central Stockholm was shit, but at least it's bigger than that and at 1/3 of the price.

Do you not even have a kitchen?

Nah that's the whole deal, I can head out and have access to a public kitchen shared by 5 people, that's it.

>>57844729
>>57845052
I really don't know how poorfags even live in London, if this is what I get for shelling out 1300 GBP a month I don't want to see anything below that.
>>
>>57845112
Not OP but how you clean you dishes or cook something?
>>
>>57845112
Wow, that's worse than I thought. London prices really are crazy, and people say prices in nyc are crazy.
>>
>>57845046
I would if I had friends living in the area, living with people I don't know for some time is a nightmare that I would not like to experience again.

>>57845339
As I said before, we have a public kitchen included, I won't take a photo of it because it's basically me who's been cleaning it (and I am really fucking lazy) and everything is filthy as shit.

>>57845361
Honestly Hong Kong and Tokyo are worse, the price I am paying now would rent a room 1/3 rd of the size of what I am currently living in right now in the CBD zones of above-mentioned cities.
>>
>>57845533
>1/3 rd of the size of what I am currently living in right now
Sounds like hell, most of their paychecks must go to housing.
>>
>>57845829
That's why thousands of people live in the suburbs or on the outskirts or surrounding counties of London and just commute. The same for many large cities I imagine.
>>
If housing in London is so expensive how are thousands of poor pakistani people and their extended families living there? How can they afford London while the average Englishman can't?
>>
>>57848169
They live in designated areas which are pretty cheap, but no white person would ever want to live there. Either that or they've made a decent life for themselves as a doctor or something
>>
I was paying £70 a week for a room.

lmao

or old. The property boom started in the mid-90s. Before that houses were merely expensive, rather than literally out of reach for any ordinary person. That's why the government doesn't do anything about rising house prices: everyone who already owned a house in the 90s laughing. It's the poor suckers who have to start from the bottom who're paying for all of it - and once they're actually on the property ladder, they're as invested in the shitty system as anyone because if prices fall to a reasonable level they'll lose what little they have. The only hope they have is that the people below them on the ladder will pay even more than they did for their tiny cupboard-sized apartment, and they'll be able to move up the ladder.

Basically its a giant ponzi scheme, fuelled at first by cheap mortgages and now by foreign 'investors' (read: Chinese and Russians looking to hide their loot).
>>
>>57841705
You can definitely find places cheaper than they a little further out. Deoebds what you want.
