Circumstances forced their hand, it really is that simple. The Germans didn't hate the French or Dutch, but there was no time to try and convince them of the evils of Bolshevism. Which, had it come to western Europe, would've spelled the end of our civilization as we know it and would've caused a great deal more harm than a rapid occupation.
