I don't live out there, but I've been there multiple times and it is indeed comfy as fuck and in most cases low taxes (compared to some other states) and friendly people. Only issues is there isn't a whole lot of people for some stretches. The American West is beautiful, but also desolate.

Denver has some rough spots since they legalised weed but the city centre was lovely, really like their free tram thingies. Rocky mountains are obviously gorgeous, and the little village up there we visited on a tour was the definition of comfy

That's where the rain ends. Seriously, about 1/3 of the way across Kansas, Nebraska, etc. the soil gets lighter in color, the rivers get shallow, and the sky gets bluer. Farming in this dry area requires modern irrigation, which didn't exist when much of the Great Plains were settled. Some of these areas were settled, but then abandoned during the 1930s Dust Bowl.
