I don't know much about Switzerland's policies. I think they're probably much more liberal than what we have here.
American liberals, like most Americans, are pro-capitalist. They would support maternity leave because it both benefits the mother and improves productivity. The ACA, similarly, improves efficiency by giving workers freer movement.
Maybe I'm wrong, and attitudes are changing (see Sanders). That's my general impression of American liberals, however.

Why would I want to hire any birthing age females if I'm an employer if I run the risk of losing an employee for a year whom I'll still have to pay? If the government wants these things for every female then they should tax and implement it. The issue with that is that you then have men once again paying for the wellbeing of females without any sort of return and a further incentive for females to remain single and depend upon the government instead of trying to create a real family.

Pros:
The terrain is good (though no better than here)
The countryside people are okay, also like here
You do earn more, but i'll get to that later
It's generally well built
Public transport is good and you can cycle easily
Income tax is relatively low
Gun laws are fine
Cons:
It's Orwellian beyond belief.
The large cities and most of the small towns have large Islamic and African populations, along with lots of ex Yu types.
They are terrible drivers and the laws relating to motoring are incomprehensible.
It's incredibly expensive for a lower standard of food and drink
You can't smoke indoors.
The people in the cities are the worst people on the planet
There is graffiti everywhere.
The women dress like it is 1985 - short hair, shoulder pads, bath in perfume, glitter, lots of jewellry
Violent crime, of which there is a lot of, is covered up or not investigated.
Could you live worse? Sure. You could also do a lot better. Liechtenstein is what Switzerland was 50 years ago; closed off, elite, rich, cheaper, impossible to get citizenship.
You would be better off in Vorarlberg. Literally the only difference is that we can't have full auto weapons in most cases.
But of course you are an American and learn about countries from imagemacros, so by all means move there and be disappointed as you have to live above a kebab shop between two Ugandan families for 3k USD a month.
