I travel a lot and I'ne never had any bad experiences neither in yellow nor in red coloured nations. It highly depends on how you behave, what ethnicity you are and where you are going. For example, many Westerners (often spoilt, squealing girls in nice dresses in this case) who I have encountered misbehaving in Africa appeared like and even showed that they were disgusted by some people's lifestyle there. Off course, those misbehaveing are very prone to attacks by locals because of cultural clashes.
I cannot really comprehend why the US, Turkey or some of these South American countries are yellow, but as far as I can judge them, you will always be fine there, as long as you are no dumbass who has no common sense (hailing satan in the US Bible Belt, insulting allah in a turkish mosque or get yourself a southamerican gf...)
