It seems that the West, as a cultural, political, and economic region, has been slowly expanding from the time of Charlemagne until the present.
I'd argue that the West has three segments.
>The inarguable "Core West" of continental Catholic Europe.
>The heavily European "Buffer West" of European states almost identical to the core in culture, values, and economics
>The "Expansion West", of colonial states whose cultures are mostly defined by Western influence
>The "New West" of states who became culturally, politically, and economically Western after WW2
Will the West expand any further?

>>The "Expansion West", of colonial states whose cultures are mostly defined by Western influence
Wut? How are colonial?
This is completely non-sensical
the west is countries whose core values are based on enlightenment ideals
>latin america
>west
love this map <3

>South Africa
>not included Namibia at least
meme map tbf
It's a term that got fucked up by the cold war and globalization.
Historically it meant countries of european culture, native or colonial. Now it's a clusterfuck mixed up with being developed or following the US politically.

You were incorporated into the West through Austrian conquest
>>57794109
>Catholic Europe
Absolutely Heretical
>>57796528
No?
Kingdom of Hungary was a Catholic country and Great Moravia was a vassal state of the Frankish Empire.
There was no fucking Austrian conquest because Habsburgs were elected on Hungarian throne
You have no clue whatsoever about history
>>57796528
What Austrian conquest? lol we were always under Hungarians
>>57794459
>eastern europe
>not German colonial territory
>>57796528
dude, at least wiki the basics of european history, this is just embarrassing
>>57799098
what is this supposed to prove?
For Europe:
West - Latins (except Roumania), British Isles; Catholic; wine
East - Greece, Slavs (except Poland); Orthodox; vodka
Roumania and Poland are tricky cases, since they share traits with both groups (as religion from one but language from the other).
>>57799253
Ah, fuck, here's the map.
>>57794109
The Charlemagne thing is kind of arbitrary.
Also I would argue that you need to be rich to be Western.

>What is the West?
I've heard a cunt in the army tell me feminism is a core Western value.
Some people say Christianity is Western.
I've heard people say democracy is Western as opposed to monarchy which is un-Western.
Some use a linguistic standard, some White Sanskrit scholar in a video was saying India is Western.
Some people say gay rights is Western.
It's a totally meaningless term. I think it's a synonym of degeneracy.
>>57800259
I think the word is only meaningful in an European context - West is more Latin/Roman, East is more Greek/Byzantine.
>Some use a linguistic standard, some White Sanskrit scholar in a video was saying India is Western.
...kinda, if you're opposing Indoeuropeans ["west"] versus Sinotibetans ["east"]. But the linguistic standard is shitty when you consider countries as Korea, Japan, Hungary or even the fucking Basques.
>>57799253
Since when are czech Latins?
>>57799716
>>57800578
We're Catholic since the 10th century
>>57800730
They aren't, but they've been influenced by the Centrals for so much time I thought it would be a bit weird to paint them with the "East for sure" blue.
>>57800754
Thanks for the info... fixing the map; also, now putting Poland and Roumania as "central" makes more sense.
>>57800578
>...kinda, if you're opposing Indoeuropeans ["west"] versus Sinotibetans ["east"].
No, he said verbatim "India is Western."

That's just an unusual example. A more common variation of this is Spanish is a Western language so beaner illegals are Western or Latin America is Western. Whatever Western means now I don't want anything to do with it.
>>57800906
Czech republic and Slovakia are almsot identical countries, biggest difference is in religion, most of czechs are atheist, but still the cultures are really similiar
>>57794109
What the fuck did I just read.Btw the northern region of portugal is richer than galicia and the other sheepshaggers in northern spain but basque country
>>57800754
Personaly I always go with this. Nations that are traditionaly catholic aren't eastern Europe, Russia just borrowed them for a while.
>>57794109
I wouldn't consider South Africa and some parts of Latin America as western though.
