It seems that the West, as a cultural, political, and economic region, has been slowly expanding from the time of Charlemagne until the present.
I'd argue that the West has three segments.
>The inarguable "Core West" of continental Catholic Europe.
>The heavily European "Buffer West" of European states almost identical to the core in culture, values, and economics
>The "Expansion West", of colonial states whose cultures are mostly defined by Western influence
>The "New West" of states who became culturally, politically, and economically Western after WW2

It's a term that got fucked up by the cold war and globalization.
Historically it meant countries of european culture, native or colonial. Now it's a clusterfuck mixed up with being developed or following the US politically.

For Europe:
West - Latins (except Roumania), British Isles; Catholic; wine
East - Greece, Slavs (except Poland); Orthodox; vodka
Roumania and Poland are tricky cases, since they share traits with both groups (as religion from one but language from the other).

Some use a linguistic standard, some White Sanskrit scholar in a video was saying India is Western.

That's just an unusual example. A more common variation of this is Spanish is a Western language so beaner illegals are Western or Latin America is Western. Whatever Western means now I don't want anything to do with it.

Personaly I always go with this. Nations that are traditionaly catholic aren't eastern Europe, Russia just borrowed them for a while.
