Any people in medical professions/academia here?

From med/nursing students to EMT to actual medical professionals?
>>
>>57780638
Eh, I studied nursing. But switched to law.
>>
>>57781661
Were you disillusioned with medicine midway through it or did you genuinely want to pursue law?

European academia always gives the impression you could purse any given field with ease. I entertained ambitions of physics before realizing that become a medbot was the only to make a living.

The Euro safety nets will save people no matter what

I can't heal you but I can kill you.
>>
>>57781893
Euthanasia? Assisted living? Hitman? Coma researcher?

>>57781851
It's very endearing, that education there is a priority and not a business like the rest of the world
>>
>>57781786
I switched because I hated the people. Most nurses are female and being between women all day means there is drama all day.
Law is just as fun. But the people are both genders. And the people are sane. No bullshit or drama.

And you can pursue any career. If you have a good set of brains any career is possible. You just need the discipline to read all your books. And never skip things you don't understand. If something is hard, then read it again.
If you suck at math for example then you just need more practice.
>>
>>57780638
lel a doctor in sudan. i guess you may as well just stay at home because your patients cant afford treatment anyway.
>>
>>57782051
Thank you for the detailed response (most here wouldn't even bother). What would you say are the biggest differences between Dutch, and American law?

>>57782089
Unfortunately so, but that doesn't absolve us of our responsibility towards them, and the corruption in the Ministry of Health. There are a number of private hospitals or hospital-hotels catering to the privileged though.

i bet you are underage, such a naive way of thinking. if you suck even after havin put in more effort than your peers then you are useless because your colleagues will always be better than you unless you put insane amounts of effort in it.
>>
>>57782194
No one is born with intellectual gifts and guaranteed greatness, everyone has to put in effort.

And have you ever seen a law academic programme? It's not the kind of thing you'd find geniuses in (but maybe memory-freaks).
>>
>>57780638
I was a phlebotomist for a several months at one of the local hospitals however I needed to transfer universities and ended up involved in research after that
>>
>>57782173
Dutch and American law are fundamentally different because we have codified laws (napoleonic) and they have common law (britbongic).

In the Netherlands juries don't exist. And judges can only interpret existing laws and norms.
In America juries do exist. And in court they can create precedents not based on existing laws and norms.

Of course this is a generalization and there is some overlap, but that's the most fundamental difference.
>>
>>57782341
Interesting, how did the clinical and research experiences differ? And did you have an established protocol for venesection in hemochromatosis, polycythemia, etc?

>>57782406
That's actually a great explanation, anon, thanks.
>>
>>57782406
Like:

Europe has sharia law. The book says God wills it.
The USA has armchair 4chan law. Better convict this nigger because he seems bad.
>>
>>57782612
So you would say that American law still hasn't shaken off it's religious roots? Conversely, the progressive European law would be more innovative?

Also, as a raised muslim I would definitely say that Sharia law is a medieval concoction designed for imperialism. Even the leaders here know it's the most effective tool for subjugation of citizens, and impractical today.
>>
>>57782762
>So you would say that American law still hasn't shaken off it's religious roots?
No idea. I think that's a fairly meaningless question anyway as politics is often partially based on religion. And politicians make the laws.
>Conversely, the progressive European law would be more innovative?
All law consists of patchwork, where politicians and judges try to keep up with modern times. But considering we value legal traditions less than in America I guess our laws could be a bit more progressive.

>>57783243
Sorry about that bro, I am living in a theocracy, lel.

Thanks for taking the time to answer those questions with such detail.
>>
>>57782612
I disagree with the statement on the US. Many people, mainly out of law enforcement, are terrified of the racecard being pulled on them. The problem is that people mistake equity for racism.
>>
>>57783341
You know that in the Netherlands we have a political party that wants to ban women from politics. And wants to end our democracy and let the bible rule our country.

They only have 3 out of 150 seats in parliament. But our left wing and right wing are about the same size. So often they make a difference.

In 2010 for example our ruling parties did not have a majority in parliament. So the ruling parties had to make deals with them for 3 years long to keep a majority.

Finished Medicine, I'll start my residency in june
>>
>>57783612
If I remember correctly the ruling parties had to protect the sundays rest. Keep the blasphemy laws intact. And allow religious government officials not to marry gay people, but ask a co-worker to do it for them.
>>
>>57783612
>>57783764
That's actually very startling (and I think their rationale would be enlistment in the military = the right to vote), but it does speak to the fairness in representation of the system.

Here, anything slightly against the material benefit of the Islamist party = right for torture, abuse, detainment, dissolution, etc. We are a national version of that small party.

>>57783687
Cool mi hermano. Will you take the MRCP/USMLE in the future, or do you specialize locally/without outside diplomas? I have done MRCP part 2.

Have you decided your future specialty? I am hoping for a dual cardio-neuro subspecialty.

Worse, biochemistry.

A lot of people from bc (BIG COCK XD) to medicine, because wage and somewhat similar field. Remembering Tokyo transport system of biomolecules isn't that thrilling.

>Remembering Tokyo transport system of biomolecules isn't that thrilling.
I remember the Citric acid cycle and how it ties into intermediary metabolism not being that fun.

I nearly memorized the entire Harper's textbook 22nd ed. back in med school. The way it provided insights into the physiology was brilliant.

I'd imagine there are few better countries to study biochem than Finland.
>>
>>57783858
Yeah. We also have commies here (The socialist party actually takes the salaries of 8,2k of all their politicians, and gives them a low wage salary of 2,5k in return). And we even a party that represents animals.

But the power of our politics has always been that we try to find solutions that everyone can live with.
>>
>>57783858
I'll specialize locally, and our specialities are recognized by the whole EU so I wont have any problem working abroad.

I'll specialize in Gastroenterology & Hepatology. We don't have mixed specialities, and even though i kinda like neurology, their work expectatives here aren't very great, and the endoscopies and other gastro techniques might provide me more work opportunities. Honestly, the economic crisis has made us spanish docs quite pragmatic
>>
>>57784753
It's mind-blowing that I've been on /int/er/pol/ for 5 years and not once has anyone mentioned this. The political diversity is very intriguing, and the ensuing litigation for you as well.

>>57784767
>Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
Great choice, anon. They're right at the top with Cardiology in terms of revenue (at least in the US), and the diversity of organs/diseases/techniques makes it liveable.

Just be prepared for the countless oesophageal varices because of alcoholic cirrhosis and endless liver biopsies and IBD dose adjustments. ;)

Thanks to everyone for one the best threads I've been (especially the generous Dutchbro), but I have to split. All the best in your respective careers.

Are you actually from Sudan or just a proxy?
>>
>>57786308
Why wouldn't he be? There are more people from the middle east here.
>>
>>57786419
Sudan isn't in the middle east is it?
>>
>>57786308
He is the friendly smart Sudanese guy. He is one of the few /int/s I remember
>>
I'm a pharmacy student, if that counts.
