ah ok i'll agree with you on this, I was talking to some Indian and Pakistanis about how, our notion of desi-ness was precisely a snapshot of India back whenever whoever emigrated.
However when I look around me and see other desis, including my own extended family, i see their lives being dictated by their family to a large degree.
