Depends on what subjects. I study at McGill and it is comparable to what most universities are like in NA. Top American universities are prestigious and have a lot of money for research. This attracts a lot of bright minds but most of these minds are coming for graduate degrees. When it comes to undergrad, American universities are pretty bad. Even the top universities like MIT pail in comparison to Cambridge or average European universities. Having studied in Singapore, I can tell you that you would be hard pressed not to find a single Singaporean that would not absolutely obliterate an American student. Don't get me wrong, there are some very smart Americans.

This plane was majority developed by their government aerospace industry. Dassault served an advisory role, no Russian involvement. Jet fighters are one of the hardest things to develop, so this isn't a small feat. They also made a nuclear submarine.
China's planes are mostly licensed designs of Russian planes but they've produced some original ones recently. Interestingly Japan and Korea haven't produced any modern jet fighters despite being much wealthier per capita and big on bulking up their militaries, and having a much largest established base of manufacturing experience/infrastructure. Germany also develops nothing despite considering themselves the world's best engineers though I suspect this has something to do with WWII sanctions or something.
