A significant number of great Britons have been Scottish. Logie Baird, Bell, Watt, Maxwell, Adam Smith, Fleming. The list is formidable. Still, they over-exaggerate their contribution, and act as if England is reliant on the Scottish intelligentsia, or the Scottish enlightenment, and whatever else.
They have taken an unfortunate turn into SJW politics recently. Like New England, they vote for mass immigration without getting it. England receives the problem, like Texas receives the problem in the US.
People tend to prefer Scotland to England. I don't blame them. I even taken it as a compliment to the English, because England would be an awful lot like Scotland, but probably more libertarian, if it had fewer immigrants.

To be fair, I don't think the Scottish have views on immigration all that different to the English. They may be more pro-immigrant, but only slightly, if you questioned them on it explicitly.
But Scots, lots of them, want independence. And it is a leftwing SJW party that is offering them it.
The reason why a leftwing party has risen in the independence campaign and not a rightwing party is interesting in itself. I'd guess it's because a rightwing party wanting independence will be destroyed by the media and the elites, whilst a leftwing one wouldn't.
To put it more simply: I think the gap between Scottish politicians and English politicians is bigger than the differences between the people.
