To put this in perpective, I pay £20 a month for my mobile phone bundle. Unlimited calls, unlimited texts, unlimited data, and 4G connection speeds (I get about 38mbps download, 9mbps upload when tethered to my laptop and pc)

Ahh, reminds me of 2004 when we first got internet (yeah quite late), IIRC it was capped at 2GB then for €30 monthly @ 1Mbps
(relative who works at Telekom had it in around 1995, but 56k or even less and you had to pay by the minute, like 10 cents or so)

You generally have to remember Australia is large and vast, and very far away from other countries, so the estimated cost for nationwide optic fiber upgrade was like 50 billion or some shit. then we got the tone bone and he fucked it up more, giving us shiter internet and costing more than the previous government's budget for better internet.
