Best: education, stability, industrialized pretty fast, when the elite actually cared about something they could accomplish a lot (such as the military or space race, but they rarely cared about things that improved peoples lives...), they went down without much bloodshed
Worst: totalitarianism, lower living standards than the west, industrialization came at a huge cost, lack of recreational activities (Lee Harvey Oswald actually defected to the Soviet Union, then became disillusioned with it and left because there was nothing to do for fun kek)

People will say the USSR was a "good" enemy in that it forced the west to provide higher living standards in order to compete with them. I don't really buy that. After the cold war ended and we stopped meddling in the power struggles of third world countries to keep them in a sphere of influence, there has been unprecedented economic growth. Especially in Africa, where there is an increasing trend towards democracy (Nigeria just had their first elections that could be considered clean for example) and less corrupt markets that are enabling huge improvements in the standard of living.

BTW to put those numbers from that pic in perspective, 7% annual GDP growth is the number where each generation is twice as wealthy as the past one. Of course there are still a lot of obstacles (Boko Haram, corrupt politicians, etc), but in most of the developing world we can expect that the young people today will be more educated, wealthy, and govern their countries better than they currently are. Will they be first world soon? Doubt it. But some areas will be second world tier in our lifetime I'm guessing.
