That reminds me, because you mention Vandals, the etymology of Spanish regions:
Catalonia : Goth-Alania
Andalusia : Wandal-Osia
Os = synonymous for Alan (as in today Ossetia)
Alans first joined Visigoths and they found the kingdom Goth-Alania, but got into a fight. Instead of going to war, the Goths proposed to let one fighter from their tribe fight against another from the Alans. The Goths won, and the Alans wandered off, there they joined the Vandals.
First they created the joined kingdom now Andalusia, later in Africa. That was mostly Vandals, a lot of Alans kinda wandered off when in Africa. They were used to a nomadic lifestyle so I guess that came as normal to them.
Gregory of Tours mentions Vandals and Alans crossing the Rhine in 407. He mentiones "a lot of foreigners" amongst them.
