Many spanish people don't see themselves as spanish but of their own province, it wouldn't really work since we have been apart for more then 4 centuries and have both our established cultures.

But they separated, time passed and now it's more difficult.

Both countries were invaded by eachother.
The first time Portugal was invaded was when it was a County,and we fought agaisn't the kingdom of León and won:
