We adopted the words for those professions at around the time we settled here. Common people didn't start using surnames until centuries later (surnames only became compulsory in the late 18th century). So when some commoner adopted the name "Kovács" in the 18th century he didn't do so because his ancestors were Croats, but because he was actually a smith and that's how they say smith in Hungarian. Even if his family comes Germany and he has 0 slavic ancestry.

The problem with Y-DNA is that you'll often have founder effects distorting the whole actual genetic input. Most common examples for that:
- R1a being both high in Slavlands and India/Iran despite the latter are Australoid/MENA halfbreeds (but neither pure MENAs nor pure Australoids have much R1a themselves)

That's interesting because natural black hair is not that common here. Most people have some shade of brown or blonde, at least where I live (Budapest). Generally you would expect lighter features the more western you go.
