I'd like to specifically drill the shittiness point. They are falling apart, things like mold, rats, cockroaches, bedbugs, etc, which are all supposed to be fixed by the city never are. You can have pieces of ceiling just fall in, or lights on the only set of stairs not be replaced until someone trips and dies (this has happened multiple times, not including the murders and muggings that happened on the pitch black stairs). There's no heating, no air conditioning, you're subject to whatever the temperature outside is. Sometimes sewage will back up into the bathrooms or leak from the ceiling, again, takes months, or even years to get fixed. And this again, ignoring the major crime aspect, where people will actually go door to door and demand you pay them protection money, which just means they beat you up or stab you next time they see you, you're still fully able to get beat up or stabbed by the other group, or caught in the crossfire when they go at it.

Australian currently living in a commiebloc. It's not too shabby mate, saw worse places at home honestly. I like living here on my own, it's not too small and is perfect for one person living here. It's warm even in winter due to the heating.
I might live in a good area however as I am not worried about crime and so far.
Overall, kinda prefer it to suburban life back home. So much less shit you have to keep clean maintain, etc. It is comfy.

The pay is shit in objective terms but to local standards it's pretty decent. 18 hours of work a week for 50,000rub a month. About half of that will go towards rent, but you can easily live off the rest quite well. You can often get private students who will pay 2k for a 90min lesson but that'll have to be organized by yourself.
For reference, many Russians would be glad to work 40hrs a week for 50k a month.

While you kid, not much kids around you. You probably have to use a car to get to most interesting places, so again a problem. Where to play? Tiny backyard can't compete with commiblock yard and dozens of surrounding commieblock yards with other kids and gangs, shops, little parks. While I am here I look form 8 floor, see building and roads, hear cars and tram, some far voices, life is going here. Don't know how I would feel in quite sub.

it has solar panels on its roof, got another layer of insulation and heating is adjustable for yourself, windows changed
its small, 3 rooms, the kitchen is really tiny, small bathroom, small balcony
neighbours arent dirty or loud
shops are close, small fishing lake next to it
public transport gets you anywhere fast
post office, bank, hypermarket in 5 min walking distance
i grew up in a village, so no yard or garden sucks

This doesn't apply to Poland and most of other EE nations as well. 1/3 of the populace lives in commieblocks here, mostly elderly people, students and working\lower middle class. I live in one and it's super comfy, perfectly safe, not even petty crime, i've been keeping my bicycle unlocked on a staircase for years now. Plus I've got 2 nice parks nearby and all necessary facilities within walking distance - kindergarten right under my windows, schools, several markets, local clinic, library etc, the list goes on. I fucking love it, the only drawback is the lack of elevator.
Of course there are worse areas, high-rise commieblocks tend to be shittier (small apartments, poorer people, garabage chutes tend to attract roaches) but in general our bydlo isn't confined exclusively to commieblocks as some may believe, they can be found everywhere
