Hello /int/!

There seems to be a common misconception on this board where people here think these Islands are European. They're not! I just wanted to inform you of this fact so that you won't make the same mistake in the future!

Thanking you in advance,
Ireland

It's so boring and it's fucking hard too
>>
>>57495941
I there a lot of maths in it? What do you find the hardest part? Thought it was mainly just programming which I have an interest in
>>
>>57495847
I'm doing econ, my friends in comp sci are suicidal, in econ in my university you're doing 4 years of maths/stats but that could vary depending on where you go, hope you liked honours maths
>>
>>57495999
Well I'm not doing pure computer science I'm doing business + software development. The maths is ok but I hate coding. Also most lecturers I have are awful. Apparently that's common
You get a good few weirdos in comp sci courses too
>>
How come all of the Irish people are speaking English to each other?

Not doing honours maths .. economics involves a lot of maths? Well no algebra and shit, right?
>>
>>57496089
Why is there an English flag on your flag?
>>
>>57496141
I dropped to pass maths in 5th year, 1st and 2nd year econ is calculus and statistics, so yes a lot of algebra but it's taught a lot better than you're used to probably, if I can get the highest grade possible coming from having done pass anyone can
>>
>>57496141
Ah a future banker I see

Of course econ has a shit load of maths your div, it's all fucking maths with a little bit of theory how to apply it to the real world.

Comp Sci has a lot of maths in it as well and can be a real ballbreaker if you are not too good at problem solving and logic.
>>
>>57496350
To be fair to him there are comp sci courses in dublin that only have maths modules in first year
>>
What college you lads in? I'm in dit myself
Grim enough place desu
>>
>>57496251
Do you enjoy it? Much theory real world stuff, macro mainly? Similar to lc economics? What college do you go to and what job do you hope to get from it?

Im stuck between econ and comp sci, sci starting rates are higher and software is the future even if im shite at maths surely i could buckle down and learn the shit?
>>
>>57496509
The maths isn't too hard that you'll fail because of it. All the college's usually have maths help and there's also grinds if you're really stuck
Do something you're interested in not something that you think will pay well.
I thought the same as you and I fucking hate my course
>>
My gf is Irish, can I stay?
>>
>>57496616
All are welcome in /Eire/
Except for prodestants of course
>>
>>57496509
I have to go to sleep ironically because of a partial derivatives test tomorrow morning but to sum it up:

I like it, I do a language with it so that keeps me entertained, it's much more scientific than LC econ, you won't have to rote learn off theories for the most part, you'll mathematically solve micro/macro problems

The theory you do at the beginning of college econ holds up a lot better in the real world, without giving too much away (I'm the only person on my course combination) I do econ and a language in tcd, I hope to either work in trading/investment banking or become an economist, but I'm not committing to a career until I'm sure.

As for maths I buckled down and learned the shit, it was stressful but rewarding
>>

They're not as high as you'd think, you can do econ either through TSM (I think minimum was 495 last year) or BESS (495 last year), I originally got in for law in tcd and a couple of other universities abroad which I doubted i could get, you might surprise yourself points wise m8, I thought I'd get like 500 at best ended up with 540
>>
>>57497089
same with ireland lol
>>
>>57497100
Do Trinity have online lectures? If you miss courses are you fucked? Itd be a miracle if i got 500 points as i don't have the honours maths
>>
>>57497198
I'm not sure on the online lectures, my stats lectures are recorded but you have to be in the course to view them, by miss courses do you mean like modules/subjects or miss everything you put on your CAO?

I got 6 As with no honours maths to get 540, bonus points are a sham
>>
>>57497306
Yeah missing lectures, subjects is what i meant. Is ucd economics very similar? Thanks again btw.
>>
>>57497473
Only thing in trinity you "have to" attend are maths tutorials, if you don't you're deducted 5%, you have one a week, I have friends in UCD economics and finance and their course is borderline identical, I can't say for the other econ courses in UCD unfortunately I've never read their stuff
>>
>>57494470
but what success is there to be jealous of
>>
>>57497564
Much extracurricular in trin? Good atmosphere? Decent professors?
>>
>>57497669
It's the kind of university that is what you make of it i guess, there's a shit-ton you could potentially get involved in societies/sports wise, the atmosphere varies but I like it most of the time (a lot of student politics tries to force itself on the campus), most of my professors are great, the other half of my degree (my language) takes up an obscene amount of time and is where most of my college friends would be from, that seems to be the case with most TSM economics people in the first 2 years
>>
>>57497966
Out of curiosity what colleges did you apply to abroad? Are BESS people happy with it over the TSM people?
>>
>>57498114
Hmmmm so I applied to LSE, Warwick, manchester and reading (All for law) and got into manchester and reading, UCAS is a bitch for irish people because they can say no to you even with the grades (I got the grades for LSE in the end)

BESS is probably the most popular degree in trinity, the only difference being if you did 1st year and decided you hated econ you could drop econ and do a different degree within BESS, keep in mind they're forced to do business, politics and potentially a law module or french module in 1st year so it's more broad at the start
>>
>>57498253
I was thinking about law as well, are the people you know doing it happy with it?
>>
>>57498321
I dropped out of it after two months but that's just because I hated the UK, I've worked in a law firm and have a lot of friends doing it, I enjoyed it and my time working in it but it just doesn't suit me personally
