Dante is cool (althrough I read it only in translations), Pushkin is cool, but I can't imagine how to really comprare both. At first you should be fluent in both languages and both cultures, at second you should be objective. I've read some books by the "big twos" and they were great, but I doubt it holdles a candel to Italian literature which is much much older (even if you do not include Latine literature) since Italy was the cultural centre of Europe for at least 300 years and it stayed florid during the modern age.
