Why do Asian cities look like the future?

These are the best from the other thread in terms of full cities, and that means mid rises. Let's stop just posting pics here and discuss.
I think the best model for cities is one where most of the city's area is composed of mid (4-7 floor) rises and a skyscrapper (ideally with art deco ones, but it's never coming back) zone, with plenty of parks and town squares around.
To top it, a forest ring on the outskirts of the city is ideal, but not necessary. It helps to fresh the air a bit and mark clearly where the city ends, and so avoid the retarded urban sprawls such as mexico city and são paulo.

I agree for the most part. Thankfully Manhattan is broken up more or less like that with midtown and downtown being the two main skyscraper central areas. We have a lot of highrise building, though. I like them for the most part though.
>>57456771
Apparently they've got a new video coming out soon.

Manhattan really is the exception though. I don't know why but the high rises everywhere don't bother me in New york as much as in, say, Honk Kong.

>>57457171
I'd say it's probably due to them being a nice mix of buildings, while also being tall without being ridiculously tall. Not to mention the rest of the boroughs are usually low to mid rise primarily.

That's not as cold as I expected t.bh
Considering global warming it looks like the ideal weather. Btw I'm talking from 26 C at night. It makes me wanna kill myself to try to sleep in the summer.
>>57457690
There are, hell my neighborhood is a majority jewish. There are plenty of neighborhoods that are majority asian, black, dominican ect. It's just a thing here.
I kind of want to ask, does any other city suffer from people who want their city to be a shithole? I'm always surprised when people tell me that nyc lost it's spirit after it cracked down on crime and actually became livable. Then again these are usually the same people who move away and make us look bad because they think they're tough for living in nyc.
>>57458104
No that would be stupid
>>57458104
It's just silly nostalga. I'm sure one day Detroit will get cleaned up and people will say the same thing about it.
>>57458104
Maybe it's a nyc thing. It's golden age will always be the near past.
>>57458104
'muh gentrification'-fags exist in pretty much every nice American city.
>>57458147
To be fair I can't imagine many european cities being as much of a shithole as 70's and 80's nyc was.
>>57458180
That'll be the day.
>>57458196
Funny enough it's people who didn't live in the shitty neighborhoods who say it the most.
Last pic from me. Northern Manhattan is always a nice place to pass some time in.
>>57458294
Or the people who are actively gentrifying it
>>57443682
By that point it was pretty much too late. You know how many pics I have of beautiful American buildings that no longer exist? I don't either, but it's a damn lot.
Also, I feel that Art Deco was the only style that really leveraged the precision and efficiency of modern building techniques to make something that was actually aesthetic, rather than the bland boxes we build today. Or used to build, anyways. It might just be me, but I feel like nowadays we're finally, FINALLY starting to move away from the Modernist/International styles that have been a blight on cities for so long.

Looks like alot more than that.
Takeda-jou, a 400 year old castle ruin atop of a mountain in the same prefecture as Himeji and all that. Last lord of the castle literally committed sudoku, and after that it was left abandoned.
I really like it even if it's in ruins. There's something unusual about it.

Narvik is okay, but I wouldn't rate it over Tromsǿ, or even Bodǿ.
>>57471026
yeah, i messed up with the town/city translation of "by"
meant a smaller settlement less than 20k
but totally agree with you that Tromsǿ and Bodǿ are the best looking settlements north of trondheim
>>57471322
Kjeks, forstår.
Related I guess is that Bodǿ is getting yet another high-rise built now, only two years since the last one was completed.
>>57471620
and on the dirty plot to the left of it, another one is waiting for the green light. While I do wonder why they're trying to create a skyline so far north, I can't say I mind.

Just looked it up, HK's density is only 6 500/km2. It looks way denser.
For comparison, Paris' density is of 21 000/ km2.
>>57478409
Barcelona's is of 16 000
ayy
>>57478506
nevermind, Honk kong consits of 75% no build up areas, which make it's real density go up to 26 000/km2. Still it could be organized with less super high rises, I think.

Saw it while it was still under construction back in 2014.
Was actually legit frightened when stepping out of the station and looking above me, but it was kind of cool too. All alien and shiny.

What did you think of Birmingham?
Traveled to Singapore last year and was amazed at nearly every aspect of their urban planning and architecture
>>57481082
>>57480925
Was only there for a couple hours, while waiting for my train to Manchester.
Didn't get too see much outside of the areas close to the station, but it was an inconsistent mix of nice, odd and ugly. I think Manchester seemed to be more successful with its urbanism.
>>57481082
>>57481136
>>57481160
Interesting.
I had the opposite impression. I have only been in Manchester for a few hours, but didn't like it. I've been in Brum for a bit longer, and it felt much more city-ish to me, much busier.
Manchester and Brum are fighting it out for second-city status in present-day England.
>>57478506
Flat roofs are so disgusting. Barcelona would look god tier from aerial views if the buildings were typical Mediterranean shingled roofs.
>>57481497
It still probably looks great from below, which is really what matters most.
>>57478791
Is this Lyon?
>>57481361
I don't know, Birmingham didn't feel as big to me as Manchester did despite technically being so.
Manchester just seemed more ambitious, and it was more consistently urban and easy to navigate. That said, I was in Manchester for 2 days and Brum for 2 hours, so this impression might have been different if I did equal time on both. Not to say Manchester didn't have have its quirks either.
