If we stopped being a bunch of hairless violent chimpanzees and brutalizing each other, we would burn through this planet's resources so fast there would be basically nothing left by the time our grandchildren were born and we would drive ourselves to extinction.
If there was a one world government and world peace, it would pretty much need to have A) a one-child policy, like the one China had until recently, and B) a draconian legal system that isn't afraid to hand out death penalties.

There are different levels of unity and different levels of cultural difference. The US is very diverse but we agree on the big things: democracy, freedom of choice in most aspects, fair trials.
That unity might not work in a global-soviet-union single political party and everyone speaks Russian form,, but it might work as a loose confederation of 400 states with a single world currency and IDs but no need for passports.
