"..date each nation adopted their current national flag". Primary key word here being adopted, secondary key word being National. Had to be both an official nation and the official flag.
The flag may have been in existence, but it wasn't officially your national flag..Eg. The Hinomaru, It was officially adopted as the flag of Imperial Japan on January 27, 1870.

The image only shows when the current version of the flag was last adopted as the national flag. So previous versions don't count, and if your flag was used but changed to another flag for a while they don't count that either.

This graph is very generous with dates. The US flag as we see it today certainly didn't come into being in 1776 and the Union Jack of the 1606 style was only flown at sea until 1707. It only became the flag you would recognise today in 1801.

Chronicles have it that the oldest sun flag was raised in the imperial court in 701, and since that time, the flag, Hinomaru, had long been the de-facto symbol of Japan until modern Japanese government officially adopted it as the official flag in the 19th century. What we should take into consideration here is "what is official?" because modern state of Japan and its government is nothing but a product of making millennia sustained Japan fit with a European concept of Nation States, which came into existence in the 17th century and became the thing in the 19th century, in order to interact with Europeans states, and thus just because it wasn't "official" in terms of relatively modern European concept doesn't mean it wasn't the national flag - Japan had already been a nation before the age of nation states and you don't necessarily have to make it official when it's the de-facto standard. The Hinomaru design was seen in a lot of scenes ranging from celebrations to military banners, most notably, the Nishikinomihata banner, bestowed to the supreme general with an imperial order to put down rebels.
