Why is Eastern Europe so poor and powerless?
Industrial revolution started in western Europe, so eastern Europe was slower to industrialize. Plus communism + they didn't have huge empires to make them rich.

Western countries used to have strong central power opposed by local aristrocracy. In every conflict of interests, a king or an emperor used to support common folk, bourgeoisie, merchants against aristocracy because they were competing for power.
In Eastern Europe we either had "democracy of nobles" in Poland and the Commonwealth later which was nothing else than oligarchy where the ruler is a puppet of nobles and lets them fuck common people in the ass because he's afraid of losing his position or absolute hierarchical reign of tyrants like in Russia, where tzar and arictocracy owned the country, including the people and they were fucking them to death.
The scarcity of free folk (because serfdom was basically slavery), lack of important burgeoisie or rich merchants stopped us from developing a healthy utilitarian society. Instead we had arictocracy with their stupid central planned ideas, it resulted in few good books and some inventions made by said nobles but the cost of all that was literally nigger mentality of 90% of people.
Polish uprisings were the best example - thousands of peasants dying for the interests of nobles, fighting those who gave them freedom (Prussia, Austria and later Austria-Hungary, Russia), because they were learnt since birth that they have to obey nobles. And we are still taught in schools that uprisings were a good and noble thing to do!
