so do you earn interest on top of the 3k you get in the help to buy ISA?
>>57387203
>not experiencing what life has to offer (responsibly)
your loss lad.
>>57386949
from my understanding, you invest x amount a month with a company that provides index funds/ETFs
they will invest it in stocks in whatever one you bought (usually FTSE 100/250), and they aim to track what the overall market value of the index
the FTSE 100 on average has risen by like 10% a year or something, and on top of that you get dividends from the shares you have invested with
the idea is you invest a certain amount a month and from that you benefit from cost averaging (buy more stocks when price is low, and less when price is high)
so if you are in it for the long term then compound interest ends up being ridiculous and earning you a lot
it has to be long term though because of recessions, etc. which will lose you money in those years, but that 10% average increase is including the loss years

FANS of The Simpsons last night saw popular character Waylon Smithers finally come out as gay after 27 years in the closet.
In landmark episode The Burns Cage, Smithers' long-running secret was revealed after Homer overheard him singing a passionate ode to unrequited crush Mr Burns.
Homer then tried to hook Smithers up with help of gay dating app Grindr before inviting him over to a singles' party at The Simpsons' house, where gay Star Trek actor George Takei is one potential suitor.
There, Smithers met his first real boyfriend, Latino bartender Julio, who has made numerous appearances in the show over the years.
Though many hints about Smithers' sexuality have been dropped since The Simpsons began in 1989 - and he even stole a kiss with Mr Burns in a 1997 episode - this is the first time he has acknowledged it to another character.
The episode was meant as a loving gesture from one Simpsons writer to his own gay son.
Rob LaZebnik explained: "I am a Midwestern guy, so I don’t tend to wear my emotions on my sleeve.
"But I thought, ‘What better way to tell my son I love him than to write a cartoon about it?"
Smithers' coming out storyline was first revealed in September.
Executive Producer Al Jean said: "In Springfield now, most people know he’s gay, but obviously Burns doesn’t.
"We deal with that in two episodes. We actually do a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options."
Smithers is not the first major Simpsons character to come out during the course of the series.
Marge's sister Patty revealed she is a lesbian in a 2005 episode.

Violence in an institution such as the military is not so much an assumption as an expectation. Indeed, the very nature of the military as an institution of state defence means that soldiers are required to be prepared to commit violence against others, understood typically as direct combat involving conventional weapons such as guns. In understanding violence through the Galtungian definition however, The interest in this institution is not only locating instances of direct violence, but analysing these instances and the language that serves to legitimise them, in particular gendered discourses that “imbeds the inevitability and righteousness of violence into people’s worldviews” as a necessary performance of hegemonic masculinity. Through this analysis I argue that the United States military is an institution that legitimises violence within society through a construction of hegemonic masculinity that finds its basis in performances of violence. This chapter will begin with looking at how during times of war, performing violence becomes a necessity in the competition for manhood, in particular looking at Milliken and Sylvan’s analysis of discourse surrounding the US/Vietnam war as well as Carol Cohn’s experiences in the US Nuclear Defence Sector during the 1980s. This chapter will then look at how violence is performed as a part of achieving masculinity at the level of the individual soldier. Through an analysis of the training soldiers in the United States military go through, in particular focusing on the work of Faludi and her experiences within the Citadel during the time that it accepted its first female cadet, I argue that domestic violence, in particular sexual abuse has become a naturalised response to challenges to hegemonic masculinity.
