They already pulled most of their troops out and accomplished their objective of stabilizing Assad.

Well, SAA is retty much gonna win at this rate.
Unless Turkey and SKA decided to join in, then they're fucked.

They can make them not fight you and perhaps even make them kill themselves.

I have a ceasefire in Ukraine I'd like to sell you.
They sent a small contingent back, and returned most fixed-wing aviation, replaced with rotary-wing aviation.
https://news.usni.org/2016/04/01/navair-awards-bell-boeing-151-million-to-begin-navy-variant-v-22-design
The navy is starting the process for the naval V-22, which is going to replace the C-2 in the COD role. The variant will have extended range and an upgraded radio.
Which is good since while the V-22 has twice the payload of the C-2, it currently only has 70% of the range.

>>57354272
Aren't they famous for accidents or something?
>>57354334
Yes, but it's mostly a meme. It has one of the best safety records for helicopters. Most of the bad press comes from a particularly gruesome crash back in 2000, when it was still in development. They were loaded up so 19 Marines died, which basically tarnished it's reputation forever.
>>57354431
I see, always heard of people talking shit about it, how it was deadly for the people inside and the risk of getting shot down quite easily.
>>57354500
>>57354500
Yeah it gets alot of shit, but most of the criticisms on it's safety are outdated.
As for the risk of being shot down, it's faster and has a higher service ceiling than most helicopters, so I don't really see the issue. Certainly none have been shot down so far in service, though they've only been used in low-level insurgency conflicts
>>57354677
I see, so in general is a decent heli.

It has had a higher crash rate than normal helicopters. What's more, when it crashes everyone dies.
>>57354677
It's more likely to crash. That's just a fact of its unconventional design.
They also are used far less often for dangerous missions, so they've had their crash rate padded.
Still, they get shitted on too much by the media. I just dislike the reverse meme that they are as safe as the blackhawk.
>>57355557
Well, but why it's so deadly then?
>>57355557
>It has had a higher crash rate than normal helicopters.
Are you sure? The sources I find say it has the lowest Class A mishap rate of all Marine rotorcraft.
>What's more, when it crashes everyone dies.
This is simply untrue. The V-22 hasn't had a full fatality incident since 2000.

you've heard right, except for the Navy none of the branches want to induct indigenous systems beyond a token amount of them.
the most we lack at is short range missiles , SAMs particularly.
Airforce hates Tejas with a passion.
Army recently refused to order more indigenous AKASH SAMs and opted for BARAKs although its a joint venture with Israel but still.
In case of the airforce IDK what is it they want to replace the MiG 21s with there's not a similar light fighter out there.
>>57357333
Also apparently you're buying the Hermes. Which is nice since IIRC, Israel used it as a modified UCAV.

Portuguese soldiers still use early early 90's gear, which frankly doesn't look that bad but it's kind of embarrassing for a western European NATO country.

You really don't need super modern stuff to be a successful army. Honestly, you could do just fine with those PTR-91s and the gear they got, no need for anything fancy, as long as they have the training. Rhodesians were running around with FALs and short shorts and they're one of the most successful counter insurgency forces to ever have existed.
You could use a new camo though, that one is ugly.

My Finn friend has to go back to Finland and serve soon. I'm kind of jealous desu that you guys get a chance to serve for a year without seeing actual combat and still not having it get in the way of other stuff (e.g. university).
Do most people mostly enjoy it or is it just misery?
>>57363308
I am yet to serve so cannot tell.
Allegedly it's pretty neat.
>>57363308
I had a lot of fun. It's misery for people who don't get along with others, though. The Finnish general has one conscript autist who posts the same crying animu girl every morning.
>>57363308
It was pretty fun after all, might suck at times.
I got to know some of the american dualcitizens who came to Finland to do their service, good guys and they admitted liking their time in the army.

>not the absolute goat weapon
>>57363308
It will depend on what job you get and if you get a fun service. The military does have a few jobs that are really boring and just a chore to do. Like some support units where you rarely get to fire your gun. But "real" military units (combat units) are a good place to be.
>>57363308
90% of FDF depends on your own attitude. If your attitude is shit (lazy af, annoying, arrogant, problems with authority etc.) , your service is bound to be shit.
>>57364586
Word. I was in combat engineers and while it had annoying and boring shit like building minefields and ambush locations the jobs we did with jaegers were fun
