America has one of the highest minimum wages in the world.
>>
>>57336349
Then why do you have to tip everyone?
>>
>>57336349
16th in the world based on ppp

>>57336581
I think waiters get paid below minimum wage there....
>>
>>57336581
Because tipping culture

>Mexico's minimum wage is 25 dollars a week...

FUCKING kill me already.
>>
But not in the developed world, which is a more fair comparison. Of course we make more money than someone in the third world...
>>
>>57336349
In Croatia the minimal wage is ~550 euros and the average was supposed to be EUR800 (since half of this country works in the public sector, they forgot to account the private one - that's why it's inflated), you work 40 hours like a dog

North Korea doesn't have a minimum wage according to that map, it must be a libertarian paradise.

SOME waiters get paid less than minimum wage and tipping is supposed to make up for it.

Fun fact is that practice is actually illegal in a lot of states and has been for a while, but tipping culture still exists even though they make minimum wage now.
>>
>>57337182
If the tips don't match or exceed minimum wage the employer has to make up the difference.
>>
>>57337138
Every wage is the minimum wage in north korea because none are set by markets.
>>
How the hell does AUS get away with paying 17$ for minimum wage? How do they have so much money to just throw away
>>
>>57337224

So they're guaranteed minimum wage. Abolish tipping.
>>
>>57337288
They actually do have some markets, individuals are allowed to sell good they make in a designated area if they don't employ anybody. It's complicated and I forget some of the details, but still.

>U.S. is capitalist
>Russia is socialist

Guess not.
>>
>>57337449
Capitalism has more to do with owning certain types of assets and being able to profit off of them iirc.

Something that's hard to do in Russia because the government can take control business they want.
>>
>>57337763
of any business*
>>
>>57337763
I-I didn't expect a serious reply

Socialism's defining factor is government-controlled output. That would make USA 'kinda' socialist as the government has control over agriculture as well as indirectly over money flow (federal reserve controlling interest rates, etc.)

However compared to Russia... almost everything is government-owned, like you said government can nationalise a company, it's on a whole different level.

minimum wage alone doesn't account for cost of living.
>>
>>57339004
The government does not own our agriculture, and the defining aspect of socialism has more to do with communal ownership than government ownership. Market socialism is a thing.
>>
>>57339175
>communal ownership than government ownership.

Who would manage the communal owned property in a socialist state besides the government?
>>
>>57339517
Worker owned cooperatives are a thing. Mondragon in Spain is one of the biggest examples.
>>
>>57339175
oh I had an American friend working in future trading, and he said that all farmers were supposed to meet a certain treshold.
>>
>5.3k per year
>average rent of small apartment USD250
>3k per year in rent
>country know to be one where the food is most expensive, said by US journalists that earn a lot more
>there are other bills

How is one supposed to live?
>>
>>57339652
Yes, there are price floors and the government buys unsold crops (which they dump in third world countries for the most part), but the farms themselves are still privately owned. We have those things because before that, our agriculture was in serious danger of going out of business due to market variability from season to season.
>>
>>57336626
No, they don't. That would be full-on illegal. Here in California, they get get paid 10USD (8.78EUR) minimum and the tips go on top of that. Tipping is a cultural thing. It's an expectation that if someone provides for you in a 'serving' kind of way, you should give them extra. I'm not a huge fan of tipping in concept.

Tips are taxed, but a lot of the time people just pocket it.
>>
>>57339571
Doesn't even seem compatible with state-wide socialism.

If the government allowed groups of people to own and manage private property, even communally owned, how would they would they stop them from charging a price more than the labor is worth or selling their property to a capitalist?
>>
>>57336626
They get paid a base hourly rate at below tip, but if that comes out to below minimum wage, the restaurant has to make up the difference.
>>
>>57341180
I don't believe that's how it works in this state. What state are you from?
>>
>>57341044
They wouldn't. It would only be socialist as long as worker owned coops remained the dominant form of production.
>>
>>57341486
Might be practical but definitely not compatible with marx's labor theory of value.
>>
>>57341222
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tipped_wage_in_the_United_States
>>
>>57341802
Even if that's true, not all socialists are Marxists. The socialist movement even existed before Marx.
>>
>>57341945
Whenever I think of socialism I think of the marxian type. I not sure if any other type advocates for the end of capitalism.
>>
>>57343270
or really if any other prefers communal ownership of "the means of production" and doesn't just want to tax the wealthy and give it to poorer people
