Does Japan classified as capitalist or socialist country /int/?
Collectivist-corporatist-capitalist.
Not really socialism, because
1. means of production are privately owner
2. there isn't that much redistribution of wealth
They have the standard set of public education and public healthcare.
Its a modified capitalist system
Japan uses the East Asian model which involves large state investiture but it is still very much a capitalist system

private companies were strictly controled by the gov and the wages were decided by the gov.
The gov could order companies to merge another one, divide to some smaller companies, share its resource to the other companies.
But Japan now is definitely a capitalist country.

although i think it's more of sarcasm to mock japan's rigid bureaucracy and sectionalism seen in every stratum than a strict classification based on actual economic structures, part of post war period somewhat took on a socialistic facet. it has something to do with the ww2 in which japan needed to bundle national power up to wage a large scale total war, and as a result a state controlled economy came into existence, lead by a faction called Shinkanryo, meaning neo-bureaucrats, a complex of politicians and bureaucrats part of which was influenced by socialism. after the defeat of war those people remained in power and they applied their know-how to rebuild economy, it was so efficient that japan reconstructed economy rapidly, but their measures comprised of many socialistic policies. japan started a series of economic reforms in the 80's, represented by the privatization of national railway corporation, but its remnants remained in the 90's, and probably still do to some extent.
