Normans were French in the same way Australians are British. If Australia invaded Indonesia and colonised It, It would be an Australian conquest not a British conquest. It's called the Norman conquest not the French conquest for a reason.
Even that analogy is sort of wonky because Australia was a colony of UK originally whereas Normandy was a viking colony that assimilated into French culture
